I was talking with my wifey about this. I mean really if you think about it, theres like 2 routes to get up. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG. But i was thinking about putting out a mixtape and hand selecting the emcees i want on it. Sort of make it my thing, not "thier albums" and producing the entire mixtape, and executive producing it; taking care of everything, start to finish. THen just pushing it.
but you can be the king pin, find some good artists....put them on yourtracks, supply the heat.......then shop that. Build your own buzz. Get your name out. SOrt of like a group would do. Once you get your foot close to a door....you can then go from there. Set it up, so if you get gigs, the artists will do shows.
or you can just shop your beats and get your name out. and Do it like that; end up meeting the right people.
I dont know.....at times i feel like it would be easier if i just did my own thang. Find artists i like, put them on my shit. Then push my mixtape. Create my buzz. Take credit for my shit. IF its hot, its hot. You should be in the right direction.
Otherwise i feel like i gotta ride on someone elses dick to get up! ya feel me? i understand its not easy getting your foot in the door.
But i heard somewhere that "david bowie" before he hit it big.....he made himself big. I mean, he had his music, But he use to drive around in limos, act real "BIG" put his name out....create a "buzzz"(even if it sort of was fake) People took notice like: "who is this guy?" Then he dropped his music, people new him by name even if they didnt know what he sounded like. Then the rest is history
For me, i feel like its just a matter of using my resources. Ive got marketing friends, computer geeks for websites, i know several studio owners, I can get financial backing. I already have a "street team" of all my guys. I live on a colloge campus (so i can find really really good talent) My tracks are real straight, and constantly getting better; Ive got like a million dj FRIENDS...there is like 100 venues in a 20 mile radius, to get booked at (seriously). I know serveral other producers. Ive got friends in rock bands. There are several venues where you can actually meet "real artists" I mean, really i just need to get my package finished! then pause the music, then hit the streets. Build my name, get everyone to jump on my dick! then drop the music!
