Same cpu, same soc.
So it should work exactly in the same way. Am I wrong?

Just because the SOC is the same doesn't mean the software can use it directly - nor does it mean the performance profile, power profile, etc are the same. The software will need to be updated to address the extra memory and there might be some optimizations that make assumptions about the memory size that aren't easy to change (for example memory locations stored with a certain variable type with size limits).

Ah ok I see.
It makes sense.
But if I understood correctly, Akai bought the soc from a failed company that produced them for cellphones, in 2gb and 4gb stocks.
So they should have bought also the 4gb stock and sooner or later they will use them.

But why would they buy an outdated 4gb part? If the company doesn't make them any more, then there is a limited quantity. We have no idea how many 2gb parts were made vs 4gb parts. It is likely safe to assume that Akai knows how many 2gb parts they can still purchase, and they are comfortable with the fabrication of these parts, how many failures they have with 2gb parts, etc...

Who knows what the supply chain, failure rate, etc... of the 4gb part is.

You're completely skipping over the part that releasing a 4GB version could fracture their user-base and Expansion market, for the reasons already described. Surely this must have something to do with it, yes?

Additionally, one could surmise that the 4GB parts did in fact cost more, and when the bottom line in hardware manufacturing counts, Akai may have deemed the difference in cost too great to keep the MPC line profitable. They're a hardware manufacturer, after all.

NOW PUTTING HDMI PORT ON THE BACK WOULD OF BEEN KILLER! With mouse enabled would of been so sweet.

Yeah, I don't think the price difference would be so much but I understand that putting 4gb now would confuse their customers.
And at the end 2gb is enough at the moment, I never run out of space, and there is no competition.
Which other sampler or groovebox has so much Ram at the moment?
Maybe they keep 4gb soc to be ahead when some other company put same amount on some new sampler.

Idk... Does a computer company fracture their user base with different models with different (4g, 8g, 16g) memory?
And yeah, they cost more, but not THAT much more when sold huge numbers. Akai would/could have charged more for the MPC units too, and made more money.
I think most of us wouldve GLADLY paid +$100 more if it had more memory. I dont have a problem maxing out memory, but it has happened before, still, it would be nice to have it there imo...

:WTF: Wait for the competition? You never wait for competition you blow their ass out the water! This not 1998!

Lets say l have a sampler with 255MB, when l put out my next machine it will be 4GB with OPTINAL RAM UPGRADE! Im a company l want all the dough. Im going beyond Akai!
And none of my customers will be confused because l would communicate with them!. :smoker:

Nope! Akai will have 4 new MPCs
and its not fracturing their company. Only way that happens is if they move wrong.
Out the gate the X should ofbout the gate came with more ram, period. How does a big machine like that come with the same ram as the live? IMO that's insane. That's why l didn't get the X.

More Ram= bigger projects but more loading time.
Solution is disk streaming. Still a part of a sample must be loaded in Ram but projects will be loaded much faster.
Keeping the same hardware ensures that Akai will keep upgrading the software and current line won’t become obsolete .

When you're paying over a G for a piece of equipment like this, adding $100 or $200 to the price is a matter of diminishing returns. Worst case, you gotta save up another few weeks or something. But then you have 2x or 3x the memory for the 5-10+ years you use the thing.

People today are putting out heat on old hardware or with just apps nowadays. So if you're gonna put out a product, might as well allow people to go ham so they get the most value out of it.

Getting a little back on topic, tho, even from the jump, with the cell phone example, people had no issues differentiating between 8 gb and 16 gb back in the day, or 64 and 128 gb today. Storage space is easy to understand, and if you're buying a sampler, so is RAM (even going back 30 years).

I really don't think it would be 100 dollars more.
The difference of price between the 2gb and 4gb soc is much less then 100 dollars for sure.
Maybe even 20 dollars or so.
I think that Enoch is right, it's just to keep the line of Mpc at same level and maybe also avoiding e reprogramming of buffers etc.
But sooner or later they will upgrade all the line for sure.
And I am still not sure about disc streaming will be this magical touch everybody talk about.
It's somehow critical to use an HD or SSd for that, the current data transfer from mpc to hd or ssd is slow, if you read the specs.
And it could be difficult maybe to implement on Mpc architecture, otherwise it would be already available.
I think Akai is just keeping the 4gb soc for future improvements.

Ya think?

By the time they upgrade they should go straight to 8Gigs! But l won't worry about that though :)
