LOL. it is better for me...it doesnt feel much heavier or bigger to me...speaker and especially CV make it better for me so I dont have to connect other USB units.

Ultimately I wish they'd just stuck to two MPCs, with the lower cost model being more portable (size wise) like the MPC One but with battery and the Live II's I/O, at around $899-$999. But I think they wanted something to compete with the likes of the Digitkat at the $650 region so we get the One with no battery and artificially restricted features (e.g. no bluetooth, no wifi, USB 2, no SATA, no Ableton Control) and a relatively expensive Live II which is ultimately the same as the MPC Live I but ends up sacrificing some of the portability

You are correct. I think the 2 is greater than the 1 for my purposes. I think the size increase is negligible considering the 1 isn't that small to begin with. If im by myself id rather just use the speaker to sketch out ideas. If I wanted something super portable would probably go with a TE OPZ or OP1..or maybe and iPad or MacBook Pro with Ableton. But again, it all depends on the person. The speakers def make me turn on the 2 more just to quickly sketch ideas in the kitchen, couch...ect instead of maybe not making anything because I dont feel like turning on my entire system or getting my headphones or whatever...so in that sense the 2 makes me more productive...but again thats me..maybe im different than others here

I mean realistically....the 2 is basically like getting the newer iPhone because the camera is better....do you need it know...no.... but is it nice..yes

I know a lot of folks want more CPU, Ram, etc... I continue to be happy that Akai isn't artificially segmenting the market based on system specs yet. It will come, but the other way to look at this is that we're likely to see another year or two of support for these systems before the next hardware drops. Akai hasn't been great on supporting legacy (or at least not current) models, so I would not be surprised to see a future MPC with more Ram/CPU/etc be the end of the road for the current models getting updates and support.

I'm always happy to be surprised though, and it would be great if they could get a more broad ecosystem. We already know that if you really want a lot of the more advanced features you really need to move to the software mode so that you can open up more memory, VSTs, etc... *shrug*

Not really. I just don't see what the big deal is. Title reads literally the Live 2 "is greater than" the Live. I don't interpret that as putting down Live MK1 owners at all. Seems a stretch is all I'm saying. The only reason I commented is because I disagree with it being alluded to an attack on Live 1 owners, is all. And I certainly don't need to feel good about myself.

I have both 1 and 2 and I do feel the 2 is better. its not about putting 1 users down.why would I put someone down because of something they own? I own the 1 so im putting myself down? If the 1 and 2 came out at same time with different names...im sure most here would buy the 2

I still can’t wrap my head around people who have the live 1 spending that much money on the 2 just for a speaker and CV. Even if I was in the market for an mpc I’d just pick up a second hand live or a new One. It’s such a weird “upgrade”.

Depends on the person. I have like 25 rows of 104HP eurorack. so CV alone would be worth it. do I need it...no, but you also don't need to buy the latest iPhone or Samsung or whatever each year

Yes, but the Live 2 does it better. On a serious note, the differences are well published by now. Basically the 8 CV ports, new buttons/layout, Ethernet port, and the speaker is it. I did end up picking up the 2, but I sold my MK1 Live for almost the same amount of money I bought it for new, so the difference in cost for me was pretty negligible.

But at least the latest phone upgrades tend to have better processors, more ram, better screens, lighter and have the very latest cool tech. The new MPC live fails in all those fronts

Yea I guess. I personally don't need it and would rather have a speaker to quickly sketch ideas. I usually use it as a sequencer for external gear (which it has plenty of power but the speaker is useless for) or do quick sketches with samples and drums and bass...I dont get all Hans zimmer with that shit so yea.

TBH I was shocked as hell how good that speaker sounded. I expected something that was going to be more dinky. That's why I originally made this post. I didn't expect to incite a riot

The speakers have surprisingly good separation. It's good enough for getting you ideas down and being able to jam with others. I wouldn't try to do anything beyond some light mixing, and they are clearly not for mastering... but I can see it getting some good usage for folks.

I wonder how long before someone hacks the Live Mk I with some kind of case with incorporated sound bar, CV/Gate adapter and ethernet port. Or maybe an MPC One case with built in battery and speaker.

It shouldn't be too hard for somebody to see what they did and what headers you could connect or solder to.

I suspect that the software is what enables/disables features on each device, so it is probably a matter of figuring out how to trick the One or Live mk1 into believing it is something else, though doing that I'd be concerned that it would ignore or have oddly mapped buttons.

Still... it could be possible for somebody with the right skills to get in there and twiddle the right bits

If it didn't look like such a pain I'd consider getting ssh running and goof around with it myself... but from what I've read you have to hack it on every boot. Booooo
