I don't understand what the fuss is all about. A lot of yall sound like bitches when they see a new **** come around that looks good too. The mv is hot for what it can do and I can't see why ****** are knock as if its not. I have seen a lot of people jump ship to get one. Some only had a 1k so it was a good upgrade and some had a 4k and I just felt they forgot to think about that when you got the 4k you was investing in ya self and not the 4k so if it didn't work fa ya it wasn't the machine but you.
I wanted to get one but look at my gear list. What can a mv do that I can already do with what I have. Take it you can do a lot more in one box but because a lot of my stuff is single units it cost me less to upgrade. Most yall do want to use computers but face it you have no choice and I would just get use to unless you want another ***** doing your mixing.
Can yall see the big picture all these companies are really competing with software companies now cause they see ya can get a lot more in a computer but hardwar companys charge more for something can only go so far with up date. Look at that super hype korg keyboard for 8 gess. Please get the **** outta here. Nobody needs a 8 gee keyboard to make a track but its a all in one maching that will be hook up to computer when its needed to record.
My point is its gona take a lot more to get what ya need. One thing will never do it. Just keep what ya got and just build around it. My 2k xl connnected to my motu 828 and nuendo with waves plugs crush any mpc 4k or mv so that's my kept it. I spend more money now on networking and putting out mix tapes

So right bruth, every couple weeks this MV-4k shit starts when either a newbie searching for advice on gear or a mpc head jumps ship and begs for the inexperienced to follow. I don`t understand this all in one box hype either when just about everyone got recycle, audio editors, soft samples, and plugins on a computer.

Gear don`t make the music, if it did we would all be on the computer with software that does everything for us. I truely believe the big picture is the individual learn the techniques, learn music, learn whatever you use functions inside and out, and believe in yourself. Most important know your history too. A MV8 is a synth, sampler and sequencer. A 4k is a sampler/sequencer whichever tool you use it will always be up to the skill of the musician or engineer producer.

If you have little patience, doubts, experience, and confidence in your craft, gear, and ultimately yourself by all means run as fast to the store trade in your gear, join the www.mvnation.com and start over. Do you and be happy with your music. There is no sense arguing over the gear and when it is just a tool to make your music. But no one has to follow you either in your choice either. Just go, be happy, and make some bangers. If you learn some new techniques, tips, workarounds and etc. Post because most gear operates under the same way whatever the name.

I listened to previous posts 11 to 12 I believe in a yr and a half, experienced a mv first hand, read mvnation posts time to time, and researched videos and reviews at EQ and Remix mag on the MV. But I also have a good memory, trained musicians as friends, and previous shopping experience with Roland products and I would still work with my mpc like the thousands that will come after me.

What a sh*tload of cr*p! You are right tho on one thing, if you have little patience, go for the MV-8000, they upgrade their OS the right way. And you can make music without sqeezing your brains too much.

btw, you keep on contradicting yourself, dude!

I agree whole heartedly that you can make music with whatever you got. You don't need what other people think is the latest and greatest. You don't need a computer, or you can have only a computer, there are a million ways to make music now a days.

This is just a discussion board not an argument board, and I personally am just discussing my views as an MV user, and former MPC user.

I don't use my MV as an all-in-1 unit, I still master in Cubase, use softsynths, and sometimes sample and edit samples on thd computer, but sometimes I'll finsih a whole track and not touch my computer. It comes down to what you personally like and what you personally want.

I'm truly fascinated by the MV and haven't been in a piece of gear in a while. As keyboardist, and producers, we all suffer from "gear lust"... We all want what we don't have. When something new hits, we MUST have it.

All I'm saying is that the MV is the first piece of gear in a long time that I bought that has truly exceeded my expectations. Take what you want from that.

Hi Jus,
Thanks for all of your info that you've provided in this thread. It's always useful
to here from somebody who has at least experienced the MPC.

I think it is useful to discuss the differences of the two, because it will help people who
need specific things be able to make informed decisions before purchasing. It also
make sure that we have the correct piece of gear for us.

They both seem like pretty amazing machines' that can allow all us the ability to concentrate on the music and not the making of the music. It used to take me
quite some time, beat matching my S-950 loops to my 808, until I figured out their
was an easy mathematical way. Now with both machines (MV and MCP) doing
this type of thing is really just a couple clicks away.

We all have different needs. I can see getting what I need done on either machine.

Being an analog head, the Z8 sample engine(with it's envlopes, lfo's, filters and modulation routings) outshines MV and gets me and I use them extensively in my patches.
WIth a little tweaking in the MPC engine, you can make the Hollow Sun samples
come to life, where as the MV outshines the Z8 when it comes to realtime timestretching , ease of use when it comes to the bigger screen and such.

Should be fun watching both develop. Though I did see plenty of people put down
flash for having both 4000 and 8000, I myself, could see the use for both of them.
Put the MPC in 96khz ( I really do hear the difference when it comes to sampling
some of my analogue gear, though plenty will argue with me what i hear :) ) and use
it's nice sound quality, along with it's extensive modulation and qlink modulaiton ability's
up with the 8000 with it's 8 audio tracks with BPM sync, pattern and linear sequenceing, and other features. Would make a fun but expensive combo.

Sensitive ain`t ya, but if the shoe fits ship to the gear that suits you. Do you ikke i wish you the best in your music. Maybe your production will go up and you will have a banger on your hands. Check out www.mvnation.com and talk to Trusty he will be your best friend on the in and out of the mv and sell you patches. In other words go for self, and you and I can have peace. You want have to feel insincere player hater that we were in the same class you and you didn`t do your homework and got left behind. Hey you can always change to a new school and start over and but don`t make the same mistakes, learn the techniques, read your mv8 manuals inside and out, really, really, learn music theory, and djing techinques and most importantly think for yourself no matter what anybody tells you. Don`t be a chump and fall for anything. And last but not least don`t complain there help others.

EDIT: I am refering to the post two times on top of this one...Someone got a post in after Renegade's before I submitted this one. :)

Good post Renegade and I agree with you. I'm an anologue purist myself. I have a Minimoog Model D, and a Korg Mono/Poly and an old Juno that I don't really use anymore. I also have tons of vinyl and I sample from that all the time.

It's just like we said, it's all perspective. To me, I don't hear the difference when I sample some of my analogue gear to the MPC (I still have my XL by the way), sold the 4000....But then again, I often just play live into Cubase when I'm sampling one of my instruments but in the rare occasion when I want an audiophrase of my anologue gear into the MV, it souds good...But just as you said, it might be "just the way I hear it".

After playing around with the MPC2000 and getting on with it really well,
I grabbed a 4000 to get away from the computer.
The sampler is very good, but the sequencer is a bit tricky for me.
The pad assignment, using the GM layout is not mirrored in program edit and I havent found a way of assigning sounds to pads chromatically without upsetting the drum sequence page. (confused?).
I would be happy with one program mode. Still not quite sure what the advantage is of having DRUM and KEYGROUP modes. Just switch the edit display between PAD or KEYBOARD display, and ditch the GM mapping.
This would allow one set of editing parameters rather than the rather annoying limitations in DRUM edit mode.
The effects are pretty dodgy, not linking delay timings to bpm for example, the reverbs sound the same, only one aux send....

ANYWAY, going to the Roland US website, and downloading the MV8000 User Manuals proved very useful.
It has less MIDI ports and mutlitimbrality, but still has enough for most apps.
The track display looks great and uncluttered, adding MIDI or AUDIO tracks as you need them , with a scrolling block sequence display rather like software sequencers.
The VGA option looks amazing, with mouse support too, and hardware buttons for metronome on/off (very handy).
It looks more like the machine I was after, but having had a nightmare with the YAMAHA qy700 being a pile of toss, I will research carefully before writing off the MPC.
The main prob, with my MPC4000 is that it appears that no major upgrades or changes would be possible to correct the fundamental design flaws that are keeping me from loving it to bits.
I'll probably run into major issues with the MV8000, but it does look tempting..........................................

So what is the fundamental design flaw that you are talking about? You never defined it.

The MV 8000 also has key and drum grids, so if that is it, then the same "design flaw"
is on the MV as well.

Also, I am confused by some other statements in your post. The MPC only has 1 Aux send.
If you get the 8 Analog out option, then you actually have 8 Aux sends.

If you are talking about internally, their are actually 7 options for FX sends.

1) Off
2) A
3) B
4) C
5) D
6) AB
7) CD

So not sure what you are meaning with that statement.

As for the pad settings, their are 2 settings. 1) Default & 2) Chromatic

Also, remember the Multitimbral on the MV goes from 64 to 32 when you use Stereo Samples
in your (instruments).

If you don't need the advanced Sampler capabilities that the MPC 4000 has, then the MV is a
viable option depending on your needs. I encourage you to continue your research and
find the right machine for you.
