CF card causes mpc2000xl to freeze and screen to go haywire!

So my mpc 2kxl arrived today and I’m super happy but I have a big problem.

It has a CF card reader installed and I was also given a 4gig CF card. However, when I’m putting in the card the numbers and letters on the screen just goes unreadable and the mpc freezes.
When not having a card inserted the mpc says “no floppy”. When I’m checking the diffrent devices I see floppy, scsi 1-6 and f-rom, nothing that indicates some sort of an CF reader.

So I called the Seller and he suspected the card isn’t working and is gonna send me a 128mb card with akai brand to try out.
Now, while I’m waiting I wanted to check to see what more experienced mpc users think about this.

Any thoughts and insights are very much appreciated!

Thanks! Just checked the pins and they look good. Do you see ATAPI even with no card inside the reader?

Update:
The problem was the CF card I was using. Tried a new smaller one and everything worked fine.
