Just upgraded to 2.8 on my Live. I'm building a template for midi control of my TR-08 and TR-09 Boutiques. I plan to use the Live to control them and record them either in the Live or Ableton. Anyway, the midi program is defaulting to pad perform mode and I have no idea how to get out of that mode while in a midi program. Thanks in advance! Now that 2.8 finally allows us to decide what number each pad plays, do we still have to use the MPC in "midi control mode" in order to do this? I'm trying to have my Live control the drum machines while I am in a normal midi program, and recording them, etc..

In your case, you should make a midi program and map the pads to the according instruments on both TR's by selecting the right midi note in the program. To get out of pad performance mode, press the pad performance icon in the main screen, then on the upper left press off.

You can also just sync both the TR's with the MPC, and just program on the TR's themselves.

Hey thanks for the reply man. I knew I must've been missing something as far as pad perform mode, I looked at the home screen 90 times and never saw that pad perform icon, anyway.... So I got what you said about setting the right midi channel, but what I'm trying to do is have a midi program template on my Live that has each pad assigned to each drum sound on the Boutiques so I can play them via the Live. I know I can sync and prgram the TR's but I prefer to manually play them on pads which is why I am trying to set this up. As far as I know, the only way to assign a specific note or cc to each pad is in midi control mode. Is there a way to assign each pad a specific note, cc, etc while in a regular midi program and not midi control mode?

Yes indeed, you need to make a midi program with the pads assigned to the correct midi notes in the TR's.

Checkout the manual (link in my signature) and start on page 299. There it will explain how you can set the specific midi note per pad (page 300 in the manual)

Don't forget to save the midi program! Or perhaps make a project template where both midi programs for the tr8 and 9 are in.

The problem persists. I have to be in midi control mode to control my external machines. The MPC will not record events that I perform on the pads while I am in midi control mode, making midi control of external devices useless to me.

Ah yes, sorry, i thought that was the way to do the midi mapping in the program.

Make a new midi track
Then press the pencil button on the right where the midi program is
Now it pops up a screen where you can select: Edit Pad Map.
Now you can edit the midi notes per pad corresponding to where the notes are on the TR's

Dude, thank you so much for taking the time to help me with that! I found what you're talking about, now if only it weren't for bugs. For some reason, once I assign pads A-1 through A-8 (roughly), as I keep assigning notes further up the pads, the notes I've already assigned are changing completely on their own. I've done it ten times and it keeps happening. The previously assigned pads will change by a note or two backwards. It's so weird and incredibly frustrating! It sure seems like a bug, unless I'm missing something here. I've tried saving the project after I assign each pad a note, then I reopened the project and the notes still changed. It's crazy.

Your welcome!

Well that's annoying... Do those pads change back to their original midi map setting, or just random? Maybe it changes back because those midi notes are already selected elsewhere in the program?

I'll have a go tonight.. this shit should work

just had a quick check and without even anything connecting midi or usb wise, i have the same. you set the midi note on pad a1, then go further, then when you go back to a1, the midi note has changed. Facepalm.

I also read somewhere that you could try to make the midi program in controller mode, but not sure if that will work..

So it's a bug 100%.

For now, just sync the TR's and step sequence in them. It's a lot of fun! :) (looking at the bright side). Of course Akai should fix this...

Unless you recorded some weird Automated Program Change by mistake

Does it do this on multiple projects?

No. I started a blank project, nothing connected or recorded. Then go to edit midi map. and it changes back the notes you just set on previous pads. 100% bug.

Hey thanks again man, yeah so I'm glad I'm not the only one and that you've been able to recreate the issue. After some more troubleshooting I found that I was able to assign a note to each pad all the way up to pad 13 and get them to remain as the notes i assigned. But, every single time I assigned a note to pad 14 it would change like 5,6,7 and 8 (not exact but close) to exactly one note lower. The one thing that is exact is that the pads that reverted or changed would go exactly one note lower than the note I assigned, every single time. As you said, it's likely a bug. I'm not surprised though, I knew before i downloaded 2.8 that people had a million bugs reported already. If only I could make a support request.... (See my other post, bitching about support tickets, it's effing impossible).

I have not tried to recreate this in another project however the project in which it is occurring is completely blank, with the exception of the midi port and channel selection. I created this program solely for the purpose of assigning notes to pads, to use as a template for controlling other drum machines. I haven't changed anything else in the project to cause this to happen. It's gotta be a glitch. I think it may be the software's retarded version of correcting things, like after a certain amount of pads (13 in my case), it tries to correct itself somehow, causing the other select pads to revert or move one note down as they have in my experience.

Last thing you could try is to make the midi program in controller mode in the software, and then load that program in standalone.. worth a try.

LoL! Believe this sh*t! When in software mode, in pad map edit, there is no option for flat notes! Not in any of the chromatic modes or classic mode! So if you're trying to assign a flat note to a pad, you're f**ked! Absolute garbage, so disappointed man. I literally may just have to go back to using Ableton only and get an Octatrack. This level of bugs is comical.
