Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

My MPC has been crashing pretty much since I got it. Sometimes it just freezes and has to be restarted sometimes it just says it has recovered from an internal error. Sometime the screen is also unresponsive. I’ve contacted akai but they’re support is terrible, the worst I’ve ever seen by far.

Anyone else having this issue and can shed some light?

What you are experiencing sounds like one of two things: 1. hardware failure, or 2. the content on your main (read: built-in) storage has been tampered with/deleted and needs to be restored using the Factory Content restoration image.

Which MPC do you have? This is the Live/One/X forum section, so we assume you have one of those? Did you buy your MPC second-hand or new? Was it bought from a licensed dealer? What version of the MPC firmware are you on? Is this happening in standalone mode or controller mode?

Mpc live 2
Bought from store new
Got the factory file from akai and restored
Latest version
Issue happens in standalone ( not sure about the other mode as I don’t use it this way)
Issue happens since day one but I don’t use the mpc that often so I just accepted it and went on with life.
I know in the future I’ll make something and it’ll crash and I’ll lose it and get pissed , so I’m trying to avoid future frustration:)
I have a feeling it’s possibly a bad ssd or flash drive but not sure how I can test this theory

Have you Deleted any file content from the Internal Storage? After you received the File content from Akai....Did you Reset the Preferences after updating your Live?

No I only deleted the file that has the genre templates before I got the factory installer from akai. Since then I’ve just been trying to make beats .

It literally crashed 5 times in the span of two hours

And it’s done this since I got it

Ouch...I believe the Firmware looks for certain files upon startup. Including some of the Templates. There's a LOOOONNNGGG history of this happening when People Tamper with the Files on the Internal Storage.

If you have Re-written all of the Factory Files that Akai sent you. Try to Reset the Preferences after Updating.

P.S...

NEVER DELETE ANYTHING ON THE INTERNAL STORAGE. No reason to since you can Install your OWN HDD/SSD or SD Card for storage!

Yes I learnt this the hard way. the only reason why I deleted the stuff is because the MPC is constantly crashing . I thought perhaps the drive was too full son thought I would just delete the templates because I always start from scratch anyways.

again this MPC has done this since I bought it... Right now I'm installing another SSD into it so hopefully that fixes it

Do you have any Projects that you've loaded to the Internal Drive? Disable the Auto Save feature if its Enabled. Do you have an HDD installed....if so....disconnect it

J - you've got a bum unit. This is hardware failure. If it's still within the return window, I'd send it back to where you got it and exchange it for a new one. If it is past the return window, then your only option is to send it to Akai for warranty service/repair (unless the retailer you bought it from can help arrange this for you).

Sorry to say but if it was crashing like this since day 1, you should have returned it on day 2 and exchanged it for one that wasn't defective.

Good luck!

You are likely correct . I should have brought it back however at that time I wasn’t really using the mpc because Ableton and push are the center of my workflow and thought it was just a bad flash drive or ssd. I did talk to the retailer and they said bring it in, this is the plan I just thought by creating this post I might be able to find a resolution but I do think it’s just a bad unit.

I had stored my projects on a flash disk and all my samples on the ssd.

I went into the mpc folders and deleted the .json files. Those are files that store cache settings. I remember having this type of issue with other programs and it always worked. Make sure not to fully delete them in case it does not work for you then you can just restore them. It worked for me.

How did you access your .json cache folders on the built-in Factory storage? Through your built-in MPC browser in standalone mode? :hmmm:
