ANALOG: POPULAR synths vs rare synths

I find copying settings only TRULY works if you have the same synth.
Thus the benefit of having popular analog synths from MOOG or DAVE SMITH/sequential. U can go on web/utube and find the patch settings for many popular songs.

Otherwise, you have to truly learn your synth and MPC FX to reproduce a sound. This dude sells presets for a lot of popular synths but I make my own patches. I rec getting a “modern” synth where it easy to save/restore your patches. I would avoid synths that require some archaic/outdated library system

Many times I've used patch sheets from Model D and applied whatever I could to Subsequent-37 and it comes out pretty close, I just dial things in a little more and I damn near have the same sounds I was initially looking for. I'd say it 80% of the time works out for me.

I've recreated a few things from my 37 to MS-20 and I can usually get really close.
Same with Turbo Phatt, I've recreated some of those synths on Kronos2.
None of this was quick tho, not at all.

I find to get the same sound, u need the same synth / mixing board / FX CHAIN / etc. ask any audio engineer / recording pro & they will tell you crazy stories about what they did to get “that sound.”

I’m lazy, a lot of my magic is in the midi sequencing & a couple slick knob turns. My old green korg electribe showed me the power of motion sequencing quite sometime ago . . . . . . . . . the MPC LIVE automation is not so simple but very powerful.

Agreed on the article as well. I found it to be very interesting on some historic things about what we're using these days.
