Akai does not need to update drivers, that's the whole point of class compliance, no drivers are needed. It's up to the interface manufacturers to choose whether they adhere to class compliance in the first place - if they don't and use custom drivers instead, there's nothing Akai can do. Your old interface will not work with the MPC, but most modern interfaces should in theory work fine if they are properly class compliant and can run at 44.1Hz.

I feel like this should be a sticky.

Turn CC mode on first (the switch next to usb) and power on the device

In Class Compliant mode ("CC MODE" switch on the back of the UR44), you get standardized audio i/o functionality that's commonly found across different audio interfaces. But you do not get to use device-specific extra features such as adjusting the parameters of the UR44's mixer and effects processor - that's not a standardized device "class". At least to my knowledge. The same thing used to be with MIDI interfaces - 20 years ago you had to install device-specific drivers just to use MIDI, at least with some MIDI boxes. Nowadays most MIDI interfaces are Class Compliant. Just like keyboards and mice - it would be ridiculous to have to install _drivers_ for a keyboard or mouse. (When is USB keyboard and mouse support coming to MPC?)

Don’t forget to add as a 3rd rule Linux compatibility..
Presonus Studiolive Series III mixers are class compliant but they’re not Linux compatible only Windows & MAC so they’re not working according to Presonus Forums..

MOTU as well. Their "class compliance" only extends to MacOS and iOS, doesnt work on Windows or Linux. Although SOME MOTU interfaces do seemingly have Linux drivers created by the community, just like the old eMagic AMT8/Unitor 8 MIDI Interfaces (thats why they work on the MPC with no drivers). My 828MK2 fired right up and worked just perfect under Ubuntu, and MOTU themselves HATE Linux, too bad it was Firewire or it wouldve worked with the MPC too.

If Presonus Studiolive Series III mixer was class compliant it should work not only on linux ,but on iOS too

So I have not updated and won't like minor folks.. so why can't with this update work with vendors and do ethernet to eternet to motu? Hoping for using the audio card from mpc to motu 828es to my DAW for 32 output why not?

I know standalone but this would be a true standalone to das mix..

Behringer UMC1820 arrived today and working just great! So far everything just works out of the box. No crackles, pops, glitches, anything. Don't have any ADAT box hooked up yet but should be nice and easy like the rest. Looks like the MPC follows the output numbering scheme printed on the back so should be no problem figuring out where the ADAT is once I get another one hehe. Now to figure out where the hell Im gonna put this thing!

According to a Presonus representative in their forums their series III works on Windows,MAC and also iOS cause they wrote specifically class compliant drivers for them but not for Linux so..there’s your 3rd rule..

So these interfaces are not "class compliant". It's easy, it's either class compliant or it isn't. If they need to write specific drivers for these soundcards, then they are not class compliant. As more and more external gear starts supporting external interface, such as Maschine + or the MPC/Force line, more and more manufacturers will have to reconsider their design choices, hopefully.

Maybe we should invent a new name for that new kind of hardware that supports class compliant peripherial.

IAW? Integrated Audio Workstation?

IAH? Integrated Audio Hardware?

It should work fine. All low cost Berhinger soundcards are class compliant, including the 10+ year old UCA202

From what I gathered is Windows is a bit behind on class compliancy. They support like USB 1.1 but not 2.0 or some variation of it something like that? I read a little bit about it a couple weeks ago while researching the whole thing with MOTU but I only use Windows in a virtual machine for a couple things so I didn't really follow up on it. I guess its the audio part that they are falling behind on. ViewSonic's touch screens are class compliant 'TabletPC devices' and work just fine with Windows XP/7/8/10 built in drivers so they're on the ball with other stuff, just not audio it seems.

Many thanks sir! I was waiting to bite the bullet on the umc1820 til someone GPd it. It's just what I need to connect to my ZEDR16 inputs... :worthy:
