Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

I am currently wondering when would we expect the next new model of MPC's and what would be the features Akai would add or improve.

- Faster CPU to run more plugins and virtual synths
- More internal storage
- Possibility to run any VST plugin in standalone mode
- New layout with more buttons.
- TOUCH STRIP like we have got it with MPC Studio
- Larger display
- A complete redesigned device which will not fit in the current Live, One or X category
- More connections.

What are the features you expect or attract you ?

Larger screen, better CPU, VST support, more connections. Isn't this a laptop? I worry we're beginning to lose sight of why we loved the MPC in the first place.

IMO, fix the bugs, polish the existing features. If people want to run Omnisphere, Kontakt instruments and all the other bells and whistles, a laptop with a proper DAW like Ableton is going to be much more
powerful and flexible.

As for hardware, a touchstrip would be a great addition, as would an increase in sensitivity and responsiveness for the pads.

i would love further development on the sampler as they did with 2.10. like a lite version of their old rackmount samplers. unlimited sends/busses. further improvements on the sequencer and song editing. i think akai has a good thing going with the current offerings.

Couldn't agree more. Lately this forum has been going crazy with topics about 'missing features' and I'm like... Didn't you people read the specs of what you bought? It's like buying a Ferarri and then complain that you got a small trunk.

Almost posted the same thing earlier this morning when I first saw the thread but left it alone haha.
Seriously, we have the DAWs for all that. Just get my sampler workstation to be the tightest running ship it can be, it already does way more than it did when I bought it, and it did everything I needed it to do then. I just hope the next update gives us some sort of mod matrix and another LFO or something, and this thing will be perfect. They can keep all their synth plugins, we've got a sampler.

Its fine for me but think on smartphones.
Every user is expecting every year better specs.

A better cam with higher resolution, a new processor, more memory for the same price. Why we would not expect the same thing for MPC and even if it is every 2 years ?

The smallest iPad has already much more cpu power than an MPC. Its like MPC is only a toy for children compared with the possibilities of the CPU power. If Akai can not follow, why not to make only software for a iPad and give us a superior controller with great pads to integrate with.

Because then it would be a laptop/tablet whatever and not a standalone machine...

Perhaps a bit weird to say, but that's kinda like asking the makers of Ableton why they don't do a hardware sampler... They just don't. If you need that you get a MPC.

MPCs are a great one in all solution to get away from pc's, tablets and what not. Or atleast that's what it is for me. :)

Personally I find that the current Mpc line has reached a very good level, it's been 4 years of improvements that nobody were expecting so powerful.
We started in 2017 with the same cpu, now look what's the difference between 2017Mpc and 2021Mpc. So I don't think that the cpu is the problem. It's just a coding matter, I guess that Akai started just rendering digital Mpc5000 OS to linux and working on that, improving it and recoding and optimizing it with any update.
I also think that next step is jumping to 3.0, adapting it from Force, which also has same cpu.
It might be that some new Mpc comes out with 3.0 but I don't think they will change cpu. Touch strip is very welcome.
I don't see any chance for Vst, but I can see the possibility that 3d party developers bring their vst to Mpc, in the same way Air did with their synths. I think that this would put Mpc at another level, if we could have diffrent plugins to choose in the same way we have Racks with Reason.
I am not sure it's gonna happen though.
But I am sure that this collaboration between Akai and Air will bring always new stuff, as the last granulator and stutter and the new synths, which are very good imo.
So I can see an hardware update with touch strip and maybe more buttons, more fx and synths to choose, maybe 3.0 and maybe disc streaming and arranger.

But as mpctutor said before: fix the bugs.
What the hell is Akai waiting to fix the bugs?
By droussel Mon Nov 15, 2021 2:29 am
Personally, I agree 100% about fixing the bugs. Disk streaming and the arranger would also be in my top 3 as I like to jam with my guitar on top of beats and it would be very welcomed to be able to record direct to disk, and then be able to arrange one long audio take on top of sequences/song. Apart from that, I feel spoiled and I don't feel feel like I really know the device in and out yet anyway.

Im guessing you are an American getting all his hardware on credit with Sweetwater? Most people on this have been here for the long run and used their mpcs for more then 2 years before they thought they where obsolete. My last MPC I used for more then ten years. This shit is no smartphone instant gratification shit. This shit is a musical instrument ment to be used for the ages. AKAI has a nice platform going and finally figured out where they are going with the MPC in this new age. No way they are gonna kick all those users in the nuts with another new platform. They want you to stay and buy expansions and bluetooth shitty keyboards from them to accompany your MPC. They are finally selling mpcs as hot cakes with the live 2 and one.

Oh and if you want to use your iPad with a controller and impc AKAI got you covered there what are you on about? :hmmm:

These kind of threads make me wanna gouge my eyeballs out. I can always tell before clicking it it will be the most ridiculous ideas, requests and speculation.

if you spend your whole life waiting for something more. You'll wait your whole life away. At some point you have to go: "Well, this is what I have so I may as well learn to rip it on this."

"Gear Acquisition Syndrome, also known as GAS, is commonly understood as the musicians' unrelenting urge to buy and own instruments and equipment as an anticipated catalyst of creative energy and bringer of happiness. ... The urge is directed by the belief that acquiring another instrument will make one a better player.

Seriously, the current line of MPCs does much more than expected, and it does it very well... I don't think people wishing for newer models with more bells and whistles has even reached a half of its potential. And if so, they should just go ahead and become creative on the limitations.

I agree, now Mpc has all you need to be creative.
But it's also kind of normal that people fantasize about some new hardware, it's 4 years old, it's growing update per update and it's possibly the best groovebox out there at the moment.
For me current Mpc is more then enough, I still have the Mpc Live mk1 and I am perfectly fine with it.
But I can understand people speculations about new improvements, new hardware, new features.
Why not.
Akai is going to come out with something new sooner or later, isn't it? And it's human to think how it could improve, given that it's a successful product.
