Also it's not nice to pepper several different threads with the same question.

If they market as a synthesizer, the thing better have a proper sampling architecture. Mod matrix, auto loop finding, not the BS they give you with auto sampler, and ALOT better filter selections. Not a generic filter with an EQ curve applied.

From the Box text:
"Legendary MPC Workflow"

With complete sarcasm:

"Only the 60, 60II and 3000 were legendary, everything else is just a cheap imitation!"

I would add the 2000 and 4000 in the legendary category (but not quite as legendary as the Roger Linn models). I also have a soft spot in my heart for the 2500 and Renaissance.

Ive only used vintage MPCs which didn’t have those lights. I’ve never used a modern MPC. The lights under the pads really bother my eyes. I’m interested in buying the MPC Key 61, but if there’s no way to completely turn off the pad lights, it may be a deal breaker for me. Is it possible to completely disable the pad lights?

In the manual, look up 'pad color'. You can make it so there are no lights.

When you turn of the lights, does it turn them off entirely, or do they still light up Red/Yellow/Green for velocity? I'm not in front of my MPC to try it right now.

The majority of the most advanced modern-day samplers still haven't caught up to the ASR-10 and knowing what our MPCs can do, I'm gonna have to say, no, just no.

I honestly think they're calling it a "Synthesizer Keyboard" because it has the HYPE an Tubesynth pre-installed. Maybe, I'm wrong tho.

Exactly, the current Generation of MPC's is still missing essential features from the 4K. The ASR-10 is legendary. Timbo and Pharrell made countless hits with that board.

You know that SAMPLERS are in fact SYNTHESIZERS right?

TonyO. wrote:The ASR10 is fantastic, but it’s like 30 years old and there’s literally only one guy in the country that knows how to fix them.

30 years later.......and we still can't get 8 sample layers, 64 effects, and dual filters in series. Not to mention 2 LFO's, 30 destination mod matrix, and sequence data clip board with phrase library. (features from the 4K)

Older gear has more functionality and better features, yet, I agree, there's very few repair techs when and if these old gems go sour. I'm still clinging on to my Fantom-X with the hope of repairing it someday.

Not very few. There’s literally one human being left on God’s green earth that knows how to fix an ASR10 properly (Syntaur). Right now I have a broken EPS Keyboard in my closet that’s completely flatlined with no hope getting revived. But I agree, it’s sad nothing comes close to ASR10. After all these years ASR10 is still the GOAT.

That vst lineup you highlighted is already in stand alone mode. So as it sits, it’s still the same as an mpc live and MPK attached

Akai has a long way to go to even be able to think they can step into the arena with the older Ensoniq, emu or even Akai samplers. They will not fill that space with flashy lights and cut down versions of the generic air vsts. Roland at least acknowleded an analog filter in their flagship, electron recently as well with the Syntakt. even a 1 to 1 port of the Alesis ion is a step further than the synths offered. The architecture is lacking for the level of sound design work machines 30+ years ago were able to achieve.

Not trying to be a hater, this will do well even if just a port of the MPC OS but we need to be realistic about the devolution in many areas.
