Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

And read that on the same page.
Exactly my same idea.

"Stepping up to 4Gb of RAM to implement an app store for VST's? Currently, the only plugins that can work on the MPC's in standalone are some Air plugin effects and 3 extremely scaled down and voice limited DSP synths, and all of these are provided for free. Not sure implementing a VST app store on the MPC is even in the cards, since they'd need a thriving ecosystem to develop and sell them in - and right now Air is literally their only partner (and it takes ages for them to make plugins that can run on the MPC, as we've discovered first hand)."

an Mpc that can run real vst or linux converted plugins. A plugin store for not just synths but also fx.
This way Mpc would have a glorious future.

The RockChip board thats in the Live/X/One came in two flavors, one with 2GB of RAM, one with 4GB of RAM. Guess which one Akai is using for the MPC KEY 61. Its the same **** MPC as the rest, whoopee its got some extra RAM. The ports on the back of the keyboard dont even lineup with the board in that picture.

Everyone seems so sure here.
Let's see.
It might be the famous 4gb version of the original Soc.
Anyway 4gb Ram is confirmed.
And also the new plugins that might not work on current Mpc 2gb soc.
Let's start from that.
It's not the same as an Mpc with attached keyboard.

How is it not just an mpc with attached keyboard? Take away the 8 extra plugins, keys, and extra ram and it is does exactly what the rest of the mpc line does. It’s literally called MPC KEYS. Is $1900 a good deal for 8 plug ins, midi keyboard and 2 gigs of ram?

And you know those plugins are going to be average at best. Look at the plugins we currently have in standalone. They are fine to have in an mpc but for a standalone synthesizer?? Part of the “25 plugins” this thing is advertised as having are electric, tube synth, and baseline. All pretty mediocre sounding.
By Straker Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:05 pm
@ Monotremata

Mpc + attached keyboard> 2gb Ram
Key61 > 4gb Ram
Is it more clear like that?

Then.
Who is going to pay 2k dollars for an X with 2gb and less plugins then key61?
So.
X will be discontinued or upgraded soon.
Same for Live, maybe.

Conclusion.
If key61 has 4gb Ram and more plugins then X/Live/One, there will be soon a new line of X/Live/One with 4gb Ram and bye bye to 2gb Soc soon.

Don’t you think if they had a “plug in store” that would be part of the features and marketing?

I’m going to recommend people don’t buy this thing if they think they will have access to additional features and sounds anytime soon. Buy it for what the current specs and features are.

I just think that's the direction.
Maybe it's too early now but it would make sense for a daw replacer as Akai calls it.
Maybe it will take years for that but it's what they are moving to.
So they make money not just with Mpc but also with plugins, like now with expansions.

As far as it being just like an MPC without the all the extras, I don't think so. The Live and the X have dedicated RCA jacks for turntable inputs, the MPC Key 61 doesn't have any. Also, one of the main features of an MPC is portability, going back to the 1000 and 500, which are now the Live II and the One. This Keyboard is meant to go from the studio to the stage, but still not portable.

As far as the plugins go, the only one I was semi-interested in was Fabric XL, and from what I read so far it looks like it will be a big disappointment. In addition, there are now 3 Electric Piano plugins. (Electric, Stage EP and Fabric Electric Piano) WAY too much overlap. Even with all the "25" plugins, there are still no General MIDI sounds. (Guitars. Electric Basses, Ethnic Sounds, Orchestral Brass and Woodwinds) Sadly, the MPK Mini Play has a more diverse sound palette, and it only has 128 sounds! Without solid, high quality stock sounds, this keyboard is going to fail. Sure, a few people will pick it up immediately, but it still can't compete with a Roland Fantom-0 (Ableton Integration, Zen-Core Engine, 8 faders, 8 knobs, lower price)

It makes no sense that there are 7 plugins that work with the Touch UI in controller mode, but do not work in standalone mode. Xpand2 only requires 1GB of RAM on a PC without Optimization, so why can't they port it (or at least a scaled down version of it) to the MPC Firmware?

I guess Akai wants us to spend weeks auto-sampling our favorite presets......... Ain't nobody got time for that!

@ Kaoticshock

It's just the beginning of a new workstation.
Then upgrade after upgrade we will understand the potential.
The interesting thing is also to see how it will affect Mpc line.
By J.O.BEATS Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:40 pm
@Kaoticshock

I agree. Akai missed an opportunity to make an mpc workstation that would actually bring in new customers and get mpc heads to buy it.

If this was loaded with sounds like you and I have suggested it would be legit. An actual workstation with mpc sampling and sequencing.

9 of the “25” plugins are likely the drum synth :WTF: :WTF:

This is the NEW motherboard I posted weeks ago to the MPC Forum troll and I was 100% correct.

Double the MPC X!

Yep you were right.
The problem is that you show yourself as a troll with a strange slang language and pictoresque style so they don't believe you.
But you were 100% right.

Now Tutor I was wrong about the board so I will wait for the next flagship.
I'm getting a MPC Studio MK2 with 2 portable touchscreen monitors for my portable Hackintosh.
Now I can select another Komplete Kontrol S if the MPC Key 61 sounds "mediocre" as typed so boldly earlier. Also I'm sending the UAD Apollo Twin MK2 to Sweetwater; getting the Black Lion Audio upgrade.

I got excited for my style being enhanced not gear.

Yep. Half right.
Cpu improvement is still not sure and all leads to the same cpu with more ram.
But let's see.
Not 100% sure about it.
Uhm uhm.

I agree with u Akai is heading down the Native instruments path.. release hardware without finish the current lineup they have now.. why would anyone who have a current MPC buy this for 2gb of ram extra.. same OS .. it does nothing extra.. at best u can buy $100 midi keyboard and do all what this Key 61 does attached to you MPC one live or X..

Looks great but what are you getting g nothing at all. There maybe at best sell 5 to 10,000 of these..

Nobody going to talk about the lack of 8 Outputs with all that space they have?
I don't care for the extra ram is if its only for plugins.
If the extra CPU and Ram upgrade say... our time stretch algorithm, than I would be in, but I will wait for the MPC version. I don't need more sample time or Vst's. Vst's still feel like I'm on a computer at times even with the Q link. I've been spoiled with analog synths for some time though. Others maybe not.
By KaoticShock Sun Jun 19, 2022 8:40 pm
@BeatWilson

Only 4 Outputs is disappointing, but still leaves room for an updated X as the flagship. Very interesting that everyone has different preferences. I've never used the 6 outputs on my Live but I'm glad I have them. I have virtual analog synths (Micron, Mininova, JX-08) and the Bass Station II so I spent a few weeks auto-sampling my favorite presets. It works, but I'm still working through adding all the program previews and mapping LFO to pitch for vibrato.
