MPC Not Mounting in Controller Mode

New user here.

According to the MPC bible:

"From the MENU screen, click on the ‘MPC Chip’ icon at the top of the page. This will bring up the ‘ENTER CONTROLLER MODE’ screen. Click on the CONTROLLER MODE button at the bottom of the page. Within a few seconds the MPC should appear as a ‘removable’ drive in your computer’s file manager"

That's not happening. MPC not appearing as a removable drive.

I can see my HD in the MPC Browser but not the other way around.

Any ideas?

Do you have a disk attached to your MPC? Such as an SD card, USB drive etc? Your computer cannot see the MPC 'internal' drive (all covered in Appendix B of the MPC bible)

No disk attached to MPC. Appendix B...that's exactly where I am. Right, so the computer cannot see the MPC internal drive. How can I fix this?

As it says in Appendix B, don't save to the internal drive, save to an 'attached disk' instead. And further into Appendix B it explains how to can move anything you may have previously saved to the internal drive to a different disk so it can be seen by your computer. It's all there.

Bare with me! I may have a basic workflow confusion. So if I have a sample on my computer I want to use with MPC my thinking is I 'should' transfer it to my internal SATA drive. Is that not correct? Should I instead work with it from a drive mounted to the MPC?

Yes, forget about the internal drive, it's mostly there for holding the factory library. Set up a disk (USB, SD, SATA) that you transfer and save all your projects, expansions, sound library to. This disk will be fully readable by your computer via USB, which means all your content in standalone is also accessible in controller mode.

Then if data is not getting copied to the MPC and it's this mounted drive workflow, why would anyone install a 3rd party internal drive? (which I've seen recommended)

User added internal (SATA) disks are fine, it's purely the 'factory' internal drive that is invisible. The types of acceptable 'attached disks' are discussed one the first page of Appendix B.

Got it! I see my confusion was that I thought the 'MPC DATA' that appears in the Finder (in the Bible) was the internal MPC Disc but that's not the case. I'm yet to install an Internal drive which is why nothing was mounting when I entered Controller Mode. (I have an internal drive on the way)

When you import a sample into the mpc it creates a copy of that sample in the project data folder
