Cool, thanks!

Yup, seen that one

It's an effect, like reverb, etc. Look all through your efx.

I'm gonna find out but I'm not in a hurry. 8)

I just played the Microfreak into the Flavor Pro with really nice results. So then I tried the Flavor and also really liked it.

TBH, this kind of effect is new to me. Is the Flavor Pro basically the Flavor with more features, or is it in a different league for sound overall?

It is in the effects menu, not the plug in instruments, two different places.

Great. Thank you for the hint. I eventually found it and it works

I think I'll end up buying them both (i like mini D quite a bit) but cannot avoid noticing that Flavor Pro is more or less a recombination of plugins that we already have..

for me personally the most appealing feature is the tape wow effect, which is doable with LFO connected to pitch but is so much more convenient and better implemented in a plugin

BUT:

Tape wow? already present in Flavor but with tweak controls removed
Distortion? we had all those flavors already in various forms
Bitcrushing and SR reduction? Already in lofi
Vinyl effect? Already in the Mellotron synth
Volume dropouts? LFO again..
Timbre? already in Flavor

Looks like they had the code ready from day one and just gave us limited versions of it.

I think Iamsight is right when he says that Akai is cashing in on a lack of features (more plugin slots and the ability to rearrange them without the need to delete them first) that could have easily been implemented.

Oh nice the Force got track sorting with 3.2. why don’t we have that with the MPC already?!?! Not that complicated in the end it’s gui sugar only with no change to any functionality. Okay, except when Akai does it. Here we might lose playback or record until ne next release

I have the microfreak too, and I can imagine it's a suitable effect for it's tones.

I have XLN's RC-20 so as a VST I think it's a duplication, so am I just Gasing to want the RC-20 in my MPC

It’s the same model lots of product manufacturers use. I can point to video games as a solid example. DLC, is most times already included in the main download/disc. But you don’t see or know it. Much later a new feature is offered, you download “the code” or “the key” to unlock what you ALREADY HAD.

It’s nice to have a bunch of those things in 1 slot w/ the ability to turn them off/on.

It's in a different league for sound overall, because it's a completely self-contained "Combinator" (or channel-strip, if you will) that only takes up 1 plugin slot, instead of the multiple slots you'd have to use to build your own. Plus, presets. It absolutely increases the sound-design capabilities of MPC (and Force).

Shoulda know y'all love the D. bwhaha i'm kidding im in a much better mood. The flavor pro plugin definitely turns my crank i debated buying dedicated hardware for that but looks like akai did us a solid and made the need for it obsolete.

I completely get why why the D was added, to a machine that has a massive Hip-Hop user bass, but also that this isn't the most complex synth.

I've been looking at Modular a bit recently , and not that I'm hoping for a modular synth in the MPC, but the way the Microfreak used some of ides and oscillators from Modular, something different is certainly viable. Mutable Instruments Plaits is a popular module, yet the company has closed. This module is open source, as a few things there are. So something along those lines would be a bit more adventurous.

A wavetable synth you can load your own wavetables in would be cool too.

An update to the keygroup portion would be highly welcome. Per-sample envelopes / lfo / porta / mod / effects. so in theory the keygroups could be a 4 oscillator (sample) synth with env, lfo, porta/mod, fx per "timbre".

The keygroup engine is one of the most powerful synthesis and most slept on items in the mpc. Most people think its just for sampled keygroups but thats not true, it can also be a pretty compelling fm synth when fed oscillator waves. Tutor even has a tutorial on it on his mpc-tutor page found here:

So that Tefty & Meems video saying that Behringer's Model-D sounded better than Mini-D still seems off, IMHO. I'm wondering had he spent more time coaxing the controls, he might have ended up with a better sound on Mini-D? For reference, I'm got photos of the two side-by-side below.

Mini-D has quite a few more features that the Behringer doesn't have: more filter types, more oscillator waveforms, the aforementioned effects as well as vast selection of presets (and ability to save presets), and the envelopes actually have full ADSR (whereas the Behringer is missing Release). :hmmm:

When I switch from classic to modern filter on the Mini-D I wonder, why would someone ever do that.
