I was considering to buy Mini D and Fabric the next black Friday, but now I'm unsure... I don't want to buy stuff that can stop working in the future.

The reason I got the One was to have something I could rely on to play out with. Not sure I want to dragging an Ethernet cable around with me, just in case. If this turns into an issue for me, I won't be buying anymore plug ins. I have some hardware synths I run through the MPC, so I can switch voices over if the Mini D and OPX4 fail. But having to go through mixes to reroute anything that made use of the Flavour Pro is going to be a big headache.

I know I'm repeating myself, but I think this is important and needs to be considered on its full extension:

A) Users have complained the authentication server has been temporarily down, so, chances are that you need to use your plugins, your MPC disables them because they need re-activation and you cannot reactivate them until they solve their problems.

B) For some models, only wired connection is available, so it forces you to be near a router and an ethernet cable... Again, think about live performances, traveling, recording studios, etc. and how this creates a problem instead of solving one.

and finally, and most important, C) the current line of MPCs will be discontinued in a future (that's OK, we count on that) and the authentication services they rely on can go offline forever when that happens. This would leave the plugins we paid for unusable.

The more I think of it, the more it pisses me off... :Sigh:

My understanding is that once a machine is activated for a particular plugin it should remain activated, in not aware of any regular checkups to make sure you are still entitled to that licence. If people are being deactivated then IMO it should be considered a bug and reported. it makes zero sense to require regular activation, even more senseless if it's a secret.

I still believe and it seems more and more likely until someone can prove otherwise, it is a bug or a issue with a underpowered processor, that when plug ins have trouble loading to a project, and you start the sequencer or start doing stuff before they have fully loaded, the mpc will not be able to handle it and for some reason see the plug ins as not available so it says they are not registered.

Under the desktop MPC Software, click the little happy face icon in the lower right-hand corner to officially report a bug (or give other feedback to support). This link is to be used for both the desktop software as well as the standalone MPC.

Generally speaking, the burden of proof lies on the person making the claim, so you should probably start with collecting the proof yourself and presenting it (underpowered CPU causing it to think it's not registered). But so far, everything points to that not having anything to do with it - it's been authentication server issues (bugs or otherwise). We've had this confirmed via Akai support, so...

Apparently the paid plugins need regular checking valid license. This is against the point of a hardware sampler. I kind of regret not using a laptop and software, because the hardware MPCs are pretty much large heavy laptops which run only the MPC software. The Studio 2 controller, a laptop and a multi channel audio interface does much more.

Got a reply (remarkably) from the support email - they said they’d reset my activations and to try again. Was optimistic… but the paid for plugins are still not reactivating. I have a bad feeling about this

The fact that a number of people are getting the issue, is more reassuring to me. I don't mean to take away from the annoyance and inconvenience, caused, but it should make it easier to identify and resolve.

Making these paid for plug ins an attractive option is key to there success, and there's going to be a reduction in uptake if the user base lacks faith in their reliability.

Thanks, mate... I'll have to get a Windows computer to install the software first

No, seriously, thank you for the feedback. It's really appreciated, I'm just pissed with Inmusic :smoker:

For a standalone hardware device, I find it relies too much on the software.

MPC-Tutor wrote:Lol well what do you know, just tried to open opx4 in the middle of a flight and it's claiming it's not active. This is in the mpc software. Was working fine yesterday.

This was exactly my point, I hate to be right on this :WTF:

This is becoming the Juicero of musical instruments

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juicero

Off topic:
Juicero was an American company that designed and manufactured the Juicero Press, a fruit and vegetable juicer. The Juicero Press was a Wi-Fi connected juicer that used proprietary, single-serving packets of pre-chopped fruits and vegetables that were sold exclusively by the company by subscription. From 2014 to 2017, the San Francisco-based firm received $120 million in startup venture capital from investors.[1]

The company attracted significant negative media attention when consumers and journalists discovered that its juice packets could be squeezed just as easily by hand as by the company's expensive machine. On September 1, 2017, the company announced that it was suspending sales of the juicer and the packets, repurchasing the juicer from its customers and searching for a buyer for the company and its intellectual property.[2][3] After its collapse, the company was described in the press as a symbol of a dysfunctional Silicon Valley culture. The Guardian wrote that Juicero was an example of "the absurd Silicon Valley startup industry that raises huge sums of money for solutions to non-problems."

I asked on another forum user experiences about this.. two people have said they have had their mpc one and x disconnected for months and plug ins still work great.. I think it is a bug with the mpc or a processor issue.
How is that for supporting my theory with proof?
Also, I have had mine disconnected since I heard of this two days ago and won't connect again to see, just to make sure.. but it is not a monthly verification.. that much is true.

You don't need a Windows computer - you can use Mac as well, or just click this link from the (mobile device?) you're posting in this forum from:
