HELP: Copied events/tracks playing shortened note lengths

Sometimes when I COPY a track or events from one track to another, it cuts off the note lengths on playback (i.e., it plays them like they are staccato notes or short stabs).

For instance, last night, I copied my drums (events and drum program) from track 6 to empty track 2. But the note lengths are cut short when I play track 2 (even soloed). As expected, the note lengths in track 2 are the same as the original track 6 when I check the Grid Edit and List views. Strangely, when I change the drum program on track 2 to another drum program, the notes play correctly. And the original track 6 always play normally.

I have tried muting track 6 and increasing the polyphony of the original drum program (as it is Global mono), and nothing changes. I have also checked the LFO and Modulation settings in Program Edit, and it’s the same. Muting track 6 – to ensure there’s only one instance using that drum program – has likewise not worked

I’m on 2.11.6, but I remembered this happening even on 2.10, so I don’t think it’s a 2.11.x FW issue.

Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas on what could be happening?

It's a change (bug maybe?) that I believe was introduced around 2.8 or 2.9 when they overhauled the midi and routing. It *appears* that muting a track with a drum kit or key group has this behavior...

Another option is to make the tracks you want to mute midi, and have them send notes to a single program. I've done a few videos on this... at this point I've learned to live with it, though I do wish Akai would consider looking into it again...

I think this is it. Duplicating a track doesn‘t duplicate programs but points to the same one. Mutes per pad or polyphony settings are the same. NearTao‘s suggestion should solve the problem.

EDIT: Also, duplicating a program doesn‘t mean duplicating samples, so RAM shouldn‘t be an issue doing so.

I duplicated the program and after cycling through all the open programs in the sequence, the new track finally played correctly with the duplicated program.

This right here. Think it might have been 2.10, but maybe it was 2.9.. You used to be able to use the same program on an alternate track without any trouble. I used to copy drum breaks to a separate muted track if I messed with anything so I could keep my original intact, or for example, I would sometimes use the same program on a different track just for hi hats or whatnot, keep the kick and snare and shuffles on the main track.. This used to work just fine, but around those updates, now if you have your program open twice, even if the second track is muted, those notes still trigger and affect playback. If your program is set to mono, those muted MIDI notes will **** with the track that's playing still and the notes will start cutting each other off. Around the same time the mono sample bug happened too where it just popped and glitched with mono keygroups.

I never noticed it until the 2.11 updates first started coming out and the song I was using to 'test' out the new firmware started doing it as soon as I used my drum program on a second track for hi-hats. Was driving me **** insane trying to figure it out, blamed it on 2.11 (among all the other shitshow bugs it brought), but eventually figured it out when I started swapping out that second track with another drum program.
