I use a Morningstar MC8 MIDI footswitch going to MIDI IN on my MPC Live II. I am also wanting to pass control changes from the MC8 through the MPC Live to my Boss RC-505mkii. So the signal chain is as follow:

Morningstar MC8 OUT > IN MPC Live II OUT > IN Boss RC-505mkii

Is this possible or is there a MIDI THRU setting I'm missing? I've controlled numerous MIDI devices with the MC8 in this manner but I cannot seem to pass data from the MC8 through the MPC Live and onward.

Any help is appreciated.

Set a track to receive midi from the Morningstar only, and output that to Midi port 1, ch1, or however your setup is connected. Depending on the complexity of your setup and control needs, you might need to get a bit creative with the routings, ie. use a duplicate track for control purposes only.

This should be very simple to route, unless you're forgetting to include critical details?

If you're using SysEx, I don't know if that works. Check the midi monitor to see if the mpc receives all the data your're trying to pass.

The advantage of a through box is that it duplicates midi events (by hardware) before they enter the system.
Any software routing will engage the main CPU and may even vary the timing of events, depending on what else is processed atm.

I created a MIDI track and set the appropriate IN and OUT with the right MIDI channel for my RC505 but it is still not receiving anything on the RC505 side. The MIDI monitor on the MPC does show the control change messages coming in. It's just not getting passed through :/
