Is punching in MIDI possible when synced to external clock?

I’m syncing my MPC One to a keystep in order to write parts on the keystep sequencer and then record jamming on them to MPC midi tracks. This is working great when I want to start from the beginning of my sequence. But let’s say I want to start at a later bar like bar 14 - I line up the playhead to that bar, hit overdub - and then when I hit play on the keystep, it starts recording from bar 1. How can I make it start recording from where I’ve set the play head?

The problem isn't with the MPC but with the Keystep. I suggest you get a device that supports sending MMC messages if the Keystep doesn't, or just use a single sequencer.

Thanks for your response. Why do you think MMC will fix this? The MPC already slaves happily and tightly to the keystep clock and will start from any bar without a problem - it’s just when starting from overdub that it jumps back to the first bar.
