With the black knobs, black oled screen cutouts and front input section it looks like a skin. They really should have used grey knobs and I'm also torn on using the old AKAI logo. I do like the old logo but actually prefer the new one as it looks neater to my designers eye :)

I suppose they have renamed some of the buttons to make it better for the latest software versions but overall it's basically an X painted grey with a bit more RAM!

The one thing that makes me wonder if it is real are those screen holder things on the back. If they are as solid as they look then how does the screen tilt back, which it does as it has the flip stand there?

Guess we'll see soon.....

what was u expecting a complete redsign of the unit? I guess they went back to the mpc ren style which was a modern classic design and this is prolly what the orginal mpc ren peeps wanted. hopefully there is more under the hood than what we see, shame they did not add the data slider back and five us the real hardware mpc60 and mpc3k mode

Are you mixing with analog? If not 13bit converters won't be that noticeable...

I don’t have any insider info  but the post also contain the paperwork that goes with it. So it has the same 4Gb board as the MPC KEY 61 and from the paperwork, it looks like it should have been released before the MPC Key. I’m guessing Akai wanted to get in the keyboard market first, who knows. Was just posted since I saw it but i[m kinda disappointed to be honest. I expected better and not just a color and internal board change.

I don’t want you think I was coming at you, I wasn’t, not at all.
I was just wanting more than a faceplate change and 4gb ram. I am all about getting an XL but, that just can’t be IT. Color, ram, screen support (And yes, support for the screen is needed because sometimes the large screen acts like a newborn baby head, too big and it’s neck muscles aren’t developed, it just lays back down when my sub is hitting too hard in the room?!

All good. I was not thinking like that at all. I definitely understand what you mean but since I sold my MPC X and kept the live 2 (Don’t ask I’m married, I had to pick one and I needed to be able to move around to studios, which I regret selling it) even I don’t think it’s worth it buying this new MPC XL.

The MPC3000 is 16bits/44.1KHz, not 12 bit. The current MPCs are 32 bit/44.1KHz, which gives you more head room while sampling and mixing, nothing more.

The last time Akia made a new device that added to what an MPC can do was the Force (the 61 keys don't really count) but too many old MPC head shitted on it which was understandable at first because it was release half-baked but in it's current state that thing is like an MPC XL. So I don't know what ya'll was excepting if Akai released a "new device" that's currently is way better than the any current gen of MPC's but most people are stuck in the tradition of the MPC that they wont make the upgrade.
So as a business it make more $ense for Akai to give MPC heads just a slightly improved MPC. Traditionalist loves what's familiar - make something really new & different it will only disturb their psychological comfortability...so you get the same thing over & over like a loop LOL.

On a another note before you judge this new MPC XL, I think it would be wise to wait till the OS specs are released, cuz just imagine any of the current MPC's 2X as powerful - really insane possibilities. Think beyond just more then just extra plugins at the same time & also keep in mind that you can't use the 61-keys as a true A&B since it's still not running on OS 3 which is where the most significant changes will be made...I hope

With all this Ai made art nowadays I wont believe it until I can touch & smell it!

Ok then that makes sense u can still get a close model with digital plugins but I get what u mean.. one reason I hated my 2500 some loved I just couldn't adapt to the why it sounded ..I do miss jjos3
