True, but a developer developing the sequencer or making a more advanced sampler is a developer not developing plugins.

And without plugins, you get fewer people buying the product because hardly anyone wants to create more complex sampler patches.

The market has spoken. REALITY 1010.

I agree the market has spoken... but it's also why I can't get rid of my 4000 yet, as the market doesn't dictate my musical needs.

Not gonna happen. Roland and Korg both have their own VST versions of their 'flagship' romplers. Korg hasb oth the M1 and the Triton, Roland even has an XV one as well. I highly doubt either one is going to license that content to the competition. Akai never had a rompler of their own so they'll have to take it from someone else.

Why do they have a bee in their bonnet about virtual clones. I'd rather have something new

So create a rompler rather than cloning someone else's.

Look how poorly the model d is laid out so that it's in keeping with its og hardware.
And oddesy for that matter.

Op4x is well laid out and easy to navigate in comparison.

Never got the make software look like hardware fad

TubeSynth is slept on.

That's not how it works. Synthesizer and rompler are not instruments. Yamaha DX-7 is an instrument, Prophet 5 is an instrument, etc. and Roland JV-1080 is an instrument. If you've learned how to play the Roland JV-1080, you want exactly that instrument, not "a rompler". There is a reason why the JV-1080 was and is popular and useful. The reason is not that it is "a rompler". It's a known standard thing, and there many others like that. People know how those work. For a random new rompler, people generally won't know it and it might not suit them, and chances are that it will pretty much just suck. What's wrong with wanting a familiar common instrument you can play and that's proven to be useful.

It's called skeuomorphism, and to put it simply: it works. People know what things look like in real life, and to be able to visually see (and control) something in software form that skeuomorphically resembles the real-world object it's based on is something that virtually anyone can wrap their head around.

Personally, I have mixed feelings. There was a time when I was so over skeuomorphism (thanks to that fever dream Apple's Scott Forstall pushed on early iPhones) that I was eagerly seeking things that didn't do that. But time after time again, I find that skeuomorphic designs are just "easier" to understand in virtual soft synths.

Huh?? The JV1080 is the very definition of a rompler, same as my XV-3080. Shit they even have a 'GM' mode you can turn on and use it as a generic sound box for old computer games or MIDI files heh. Its the same thing as an M1/X5/N264, the EMU Proteus/Orbit/Planet Phatt/etc but it uses Rolands architecture and sounds (designed by Eric Persing of Spectrasonics as well). And yes, the Prophet 5, MiniMoog, DX-7, whatever are SYNTHESIZERS.

A tenor sax is an 'instrument' too. But its a sax plain and simple. Just like a synth is a synth, a sampler is a sampler, a rompler is a rompler. They're ALL technically 'instruments'. Nothing special at all about "playing" a 1080 that puts it in some out of this world category heh.

Call it whatever you want, its still a rompler or a synth in the end.

This is not how software works.

Unless the code for each sampler was taking up substantial amounts of RAM or they impacted the performance of each other (which they don't) there is no noticeable waste of resources (especially since the samples themselves will take up vastly more resources).

True, ... AKAI have a tough job on their hands if they want to appeal to new and veteran MPC users.

I used to have an MPC3000, and my dad has a 4000.

There's a lot they could do to advance sampling.

How do you think they could improve it?

So anything goes as long as it can be put in the same category? Huh?? A synth is a synth? A rompler is a rompler? You want a DX7, it's just a synthesizer, here's a Minimoog it's the same thing? No.

Uh yeah sure?
