And that looks awful.. paint by numbers, why not just use a tracker if you're gonna make music like that?

I will take the touch screen piano roll anyday!!

Pretty sure I didn't suggest removing the touch screen. Just let me navigate it with the jog wheel and input pad events without the playhead running.

Won't affect your workflow any and adds another dimension to mine.

My hands are already on the controls. Scroll and cut/delete/copy/input notes without having to zoom in to a reasonable size to select a note.

You make the assumption I'd input all my events in this way. That's not the case.

Mainly played in from keys/pads then edited as needed.

Touchscreen in cumbersome. Jog wheel is precise.

I wonder if there were people back in the day that were complaining about the fact that the MPC’s had LCD screens? That they wanted to navigate the MPC without an LCD screen. Navigate it by ear.. lol..

You practically are navigating by ear with the LCDs in 'real' MPCs. That's not an issue, the muscle memory is and there's no muscle memory for a dynamically changing touch screen. I didn't get an X because not only is it a touch screen, you have to stick your hand up over the pads frequently. Its uncomfortable. LIVE II makes more ergonomic sense but then they lost all the quick access buttons. I still feel nostalgic for the early MPCs. Even the Ren keep ergonomics and expanded the features.

No I'm saying that won't work because those controls already do stuff, and they can't have them multifunctional with a shift or something because they have to make it simple for people or it will get negativity from being convoluted. I'm sure they wish they could but you can't have everything.

How so.
Arrow keys allow you to navigate onto the grid a double tap up or down could return you to the track field or automation field instead of an arrow press moving you to another field. Arrows could then navigate grid squares. Scroll wheel serves no purpose while on the grid until an event is selected. This could advance playhead linked to Tc (1/8-1/16 etc) playhead q link only advances 1/4 notes and isn't linked to Tc.
A highlighted event could then be nudged/transposed etc as normal. Arrow off note to deselect..

Hitting pads already highlights all events on a pad/note. While on grid it could highlight individual events at that timecode/pad. And while not on grid selects all events on that note/pad as usual. ( Or shift and pad selects all events on that pad ) Copy/cut/paste are already available on the shift modifier f keys

And when overdub/rec is active events could be placed on grid with a pad press.
Gate determined by time pads held.

I guess that these machines aren’t for everyone.. I love having a touch screen on my X, even one that tilt’s to the angle I want.. I guess that they should cancel touchscreen phones those aren’t for everyone either.. there are people who don’t like navigating using the touchscreen but prefer navigating with arrow + enter buttons..

Your being silly now. :)

I love and use the touchscreen when it's most appropriate. But for fine input of tiny midi events it's not a precision tool even with a stylus.

Akai went out of their way to Capitalize on Touchscreen Technology...To Make it Easier to Navigate, And These Dudes Said "Its Too Much For Me to pick my Hand up 8 Inches to Touch the Screen"

I guess thats how it is nowadays :Sigh:

Nah, the screen is not in the best place on the X. It's like trying to use the touchscreen for your laptop while it's on a laptop stand between your large ergonomic keyboard/mouse and 32" ultra-wide curved monitor.

Putting your arms that far forward to use a touch-screen is bad posture.

That all being said, the touchscreen functionality is awesome. I can scroll two windows at the same time.

or is this Akai trying to get rid of the original X models gathering dust in the warehouse that they had returned with faults, giving them a new Faceplate and hoping nobody notices

Akai should start a trade in service: submit you MPC X and pay a fee depending on it’s condition and receive an MPC XL.

The submitted X can be recycled for parts to build MPC XLs.

Ableton had a similar service , recycling push1 and getting a new Push2 , but the price they offered was low , so it was better to sell Push1 on used market

I Agree 100%. Ergonomics are highly important, especially with center piece all in one type gear you're gonna use for hours on end. It's an nice and big screen though, and its position would totally make sense if there was more and better ways to navigate things by physical control to minimize static hovering of your arms in front of you. I'd personally prefer to have the qlink knobs on the right side but that's another discussion.

Yes touch screens are potentially highly efficient for managing multiple tasks that would otherwise be practically impossible. Unfortunately they've instead become the cheap and easy way out in place of making a decent UI, and companies are getting away with it because most people are completely uncritical of anything new and shiny technology wise.
