Just not my thing. Might make some vids at some point, but never anything with me talking direct to the camera, just not comfortable for me. Far too autistic for that :?

Not really where I'm coming from, I love being accountable only to myself. I buy all my gear, work to my own timetable, do as I please and say what I want :)

I think I can see what happened here:
the MPCX is still selling fairly well and so Akai decided to order up another production run from the factory.

The 2GB onboard RAM was probably so small that the OEM vendor didn't even make them any more, or/and it was cheaper to use their 4GB chip for this production run instead.
There was also no extra cost to change to paint colour for this run.

So Akai have done that and decided to hype it as a 'special edition' in order to boost sales. YAWN YAWN YAWN :smh:

There isn't really a production run taking place, not in the literal sense -- InMusic already had the boards to begin with. They bought them a while back and have a massive stock just sitting for quite some time now, so it was just a matter of assembling the new boards within the X shell, and then adding the retro faceplates. If anything, painting the new faceplate was the only actual "production" taking place, but you are right -- they basically just re-released the X at no cost to them, and then added the plugins that (probably) aren't selling that well along with OS 2.11.9.

Again, this is still good news for us X users because it means the current X will continue to remain supported.

I do wish they would release a "Retro Upgrade kit" -- Containing the new board and the faceplates. I would gladly pay for this.

I got the opposite reaction. I was surprised with how short the video was. He gave a small rundown of the X and that was it. Nothing extra, not a big deal. Probably he felt like his audience has already seen enough of the X he owned and didn't want to come across as dishonest.

He's (they're) entitled to having an opinion. I think the problem is this new concept of "intimacy" marketing. We watch a guy that could be any of us, we like what he does, we relate to him, we root for him, and then we expect him to have the same views as us. Then people feel mad and betrayed when that doesn't happen. When they make it, they're sellouts. It's that weird parasocial shit.

Those boards were already being discontinued by the manufacturer shortly after the MPC was released what 7 years ago now? Akai bought a ton of their remaining stock, and has been holding onto it this entire time. Don't kid yourself, nothing new is inside this MPC. They could've done 4GB models from the get go, but they didnt for whatever reason. They're probably finally running out of the 2GB boards, so they've gotta break into their 4GB stock for anything else they do.

100% same, cursing left and right at the slightest thing going sideways. If I had that on camera it would look like some guy with tourette syndrome, probably would end up being a meme. :Sigh: :smh:

Interesting to see if the FCC leaked MPC One update is going to feature a 4GB board. That would be a pretty powerful but compact setup, especially if you pair it with a decent USB audio interface. Even better if they update the USB ports to USB 3.

I'm wondering how they incorporated the Extra RAM? Did they Partition the Bigger Internal Drive(Internal SD Card)? Or did they Incorporate Hardware RAM IC's?
