Step Sequencer Page Copy/Paste?

Is there a way to copy a Step Sequencer Page and Paste it to another page? Seems logical that people would want to copy some pages to paste to others.

The only way I know is in clip view.

No copying AFAIK. But you can double the clip which I use a lot because I primarily use the step sequencer for drums.

For example, to make a 4 bar loop with a break in the fourth bar:
- set the clip-length to 2 bars
- punch in the drums into the step sequencer
- then double the clip to 4 bars (press Shift+Track 3)
- make some changes to the fourth bar

Great tip, thanks. I do clip-doubling + variations in Ableton all the time, sometimes multiple times, even up to 16 or 32 bars.

How do you access the other pages in Step Sequencer Pad Mode?

Simply press and hold the Step Sequencer button, then press the pads to select the page. The brightly lit pad represents the current page and the dimly pad the others.

This is cool but doesn't help if want to create or insert a copy of a in between the other bars. You'll have to go to Grid edit, unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah. It's not difficult, though. You just bulk select the things ahead of where you want to put things in, move them forward, and then paste your copied stuff in.

I spent quite some time trying to find that out by trying lots of different things and searching the manual.

May I ask, where is this explained in an Akai manual?

I'm still learning the nomenclature. So far I've learned, for example, that "Mode" most often means stuff that happens in the upper part of the physical device. You get there by pressing Menu and using the touch screen menu. But "Pad Mode" means the lower part. "Step Sequencer Mode" means the touch screen. But "Step Sequencer Pad Mode" means what's going on in the lower part. And then there are other "modes" in various meanings.

Page 37, step 6, the explanatory paragraph:

"You can also change portion of the clip you are viewing and editing by pressing and holding the Step Seq button and using the top row(s) of clip launch pads. The number of pages available depends on the selected step size and the number of bars in the clip."

I hope this is shown to prospective customers as an example of what's expected of them.

It's right out there in the publically available PDF. It's not hidden in the back of a saxon tomb under a pile of rocks. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I've seen it used in youtube videos.

While I'm the first to agree that the UI/UX designers of the Force could have used a little morale-building time in the ring with a series of heavyweight contenders, there's nothing hidden about this.

I spent somewhere around 30-60 minutes trying to find out how this is done, searching the latest PDF and trying out all possible button combinations I could think of. I'm not worthy. After 40 years of using computers and a M.Sc. in computer science, I could not figure this out. Conclusion: the fault is with my own incompetence and stupidity. EVERYBODY ELSE in the whole world is much better off with the Akai Force. There's a level of entry that everyone knows, and I'm just so far below it.

I don't know what to tell you, except chill out. It's not personal; as far as I know there's no cunning plot inside inMusic to get HouseWithoutMouse freaked out, nor any kind of secret manual that only the illuminati are allowed to use.

It's right there, in plain text, clearly visible in the section called "Recording with the Step Sequencer", as part of the main body of text rather than any kind of small print or sidebar.

Better conclusion: before losing your temper and throwing shade, take a deep breath, make some coffee, and read with close attention.

Hint. I wasn't talking to Akai and I wasn't losing my temper.

Also, If you use a lot of tracks you can quickly move between them 8 at a time when the pads are in Launch mode by holding launch & 1 of the pads. Each row of pads takes you to the same track but for that clip. It only works for the first 64 tracks but it's still a cool way to move around on the force, plus how often are you gonna have more than 64 tracks?
