Yes, it should work. I tried it in Linux, and an SD card popped into the Force's card reader showed up in computer mode. And believe it or not, but in computer mode, the Force acts as a USB hub, so whatever external USB memory card readers or other mass storage devices you plug in the Force's two USB ports, will also be shown to the host computer, Mac in your case.
