On this thread it says that the RME UCX II works with Akai Mpc in USB Class Compliant Mode, but it works only for a bit and then starts making digital noises, I am running the latest update, it was doing this before the update also, Can anyone confirm that they are running in standalone mode with no issues please and what firmware they are using on both the Akai and Mpc, Please Thank You. !!

That and the MOTUs that do the same thing sound like they're actually running out of CPU power. Are you guys enabling all 32 ins and outs or just using the 'stock' setup? Akai warned us using 32 I/O was going to cost some CPU, its possible you guys are using some processor heavy interfaces that are just crapping out because the MPC is a wussy. Those internal mixers like Totalmix and Cuemix are still working when you are not connected to a WIndows/Mac host, so its possible even being 'class compliant' they just flat out take more power. Your average 'dumb' Behringer interface like the 1820 has absolutely no routing facilities or extra internal software features whatsoever, its just in and out the way it came in with those, which might be why they work so well and others start to but crap out a few minutes in when they overload.

Super Thank you for bring this up, I tried it but still the same, I have reached to RME to see if there is away to turn the TotalMix and CueMix off in the menu, I think you are right the CPU just can not handle it. I will update if I can get it to work.

CueMix is a MOTU thing, or whatever they call their newer mixer now. My older pre 'Pro Audio' interface used the older CueMix software. That can't be disabled at all, and I would bet the RME is the same as that's how they route their audio in and out internally. The MOTU's, at least all my 828s, work as a standalone interface without the computer connected, and when it does, it uses the internal mixer setups for routing audio so it's always on regardless. When the computer is connected, its your direct monitoring setup. Totalmix does roughly the same job as CueMix, but it's RME's own software. I wouldn't think they would let you disable it, if you mute it or shut it off, you wouldn't be able to hear any incoming audio at all.

Tascam Model 12 has had an update and seems to be working well. Turning on the MPC first, then powering up Model 12 once the MPC has booted seems to be very stable (I’ve sometimes had a complete drop of audio if the Model 12 is powered up first).

The new update allows computer (or MPC) audio 1/2 to be routed to Model 12 channels 9/10 OR to main directly, freeing up 2 channels! Also an extra 12db of configurable gain on all inputs, and a normalise function for recordings.

Imh understanding Totalmix is executed on an Asic chip (called DSP by RME) and should not present any load at all outside of the interface.
The „load“ is probably caused by channel amount (and non configurable buffer) of the MPC software. :hmmm:
As mentioned above the Tascam only transfers 2 channels and such 2 channels even work pretty reliable in (almost any) Linux WINE...

TotalMix is software interface for my UFX on computer (I have used it on iPad also when UFX is connected to a computer on the same wifi network). The UFX is perfectly capable without ever needing TotalMix or a computer at all (stage ready standalone). You can configure EVERYTHING from the lil hardware screen.

Yeah MOTU's CueMix is the same way, although its a PAIN IN THE ASS to have to setup on the front panel haha. At least my newer 828x is way quicker than the older 828s. I dont even know if the newer AVB lineup does though, but thats all using a completely different software with a web based front end.

Some would say same on ufx. It doesn’t bother me at all. I have the patience.
Telefunky wrote:Totalmix software (on computer) is just the front end to control levels and routing on the Asic chip. RME once called it „asio cast in hardware“.

I know what Totalmix is.
“ASIO cast” sounds like a corny marketing gimmick, but, it’s an accurate joke/statement/whatever you want it to be.

I assumed you know what Totalmix is, but earlier in the thread maxblack seemed to be under the impression he could improve the situation by turning it off to save cpu cycles. Which simply isn‘t the case.

Imho the proper way to check would be to use the UFX (or any similar) with just 2 channels. Which of course is nonsense, but a valid check of operation.

If it performs as expected the next step would be 8 channels.
In case of failure the MPC software (likely) can‘t handle anything beyond main in/out.
If it works, increase to 16, 24, 32 channels.
Failure would then indicate that it‘s a problem with channel count, but not with basic multi-channel capability.

Results may vary with manufacturer, or more precisely: with USB implementation, which is usually an external service. RME being an exception here (rolling their own)

Expensive af. Quality tho.

The Digiface USB though.. $650 or so. If you got converters, that thing is the business. Still debating between the Digiface or the MOTU LP32 though.. MOTU's cheaper, has some BS metering you don't need, and AVB, but for some reason I have more faith in RME nowadays when it comes to staying on top of the Mac shit. Already got one Pulse 16, just need one more and its game over.

Back in 2010, I was pondering UFX or Liquid Saffire.
The only thing that stopped me was the firewire only Saffire. I wanted both USB and Firewire. VERY HAPPY since then, not 1 hiccup.
