From a practical perspective, security and stability spring to mind. Although at this point it's probably because they'd rather completely control plugins so they can make as much $$$ as possible selling all the cool plugins everyone is asking for.

I think once they've run out of ideas for their own plugins they might potentially open things up to third parties so they can develop niche plugins to fill the gaps. But I suspect this would be tightly controlled, Apple style, so all apps vetted and sold (and installed) through their own MPC app store

I enjoyed that concept a lot, although I never had an eligible iPad. Connecting external sources or targets would be hellish though.

Nice! So is that a mockup or an actual product?

Edit: googled it! Shame it's not up to date and fully mpc, not ipad. Not a fan of Apple, too closed source for my liking! Love the idea though.

This was iMPC-1 and quite cool, but to show the pads on screen while the hardware is connected can only be considered stupid :Sigh:
Btw Apple‘s „sources“ are as open or closed as inMusic‘s, but they are at least one category higher in quality.

Tbh, I like the idea and consider the onscreen pads just as stupid as you say! Lol

Adding connections can be done, it doesn't need to be be super thin like ultra books are.

Although I dislike apple, I would still be willing to buy an ipad just for this one purpose. Then it doesn't matter how open or closed it is. :)

Basically Akai released the MPC Fly with much fanfare, sporting a snazzy 30 pin ipad connector, promptly followed by Apple announcing the new iPad with the new smaller lightning connector. :WTF:

Before ending up on landfill, MPC Fly parts seemingly made their way into the 'MPC Element' which ran the ill-fated 'MPC Essentials', foreunner of MPC Beats.

Pretty typical behaviour of large companies then!

Oh well, the dream will live on! :)

Sorry for hijacking this thread btw.

May as well wait for hell to freeze over heh. Buy one and dont get punked on the price. Look up the msrp for the units that interest you and go from there. Hardware wise choosing this one over that one is splitting hairs. Aim cheap. you dont gotta pay to play at this game.

Didn't think the mini was real? Is that really gonna happen? Wonder how big that's gonna be?! Probably the size of an SP-404 sort of size. Has to be battery powered, same screen, same ui and have the live 2 speakers though, then I'm sold! Is that physically possible? Lol

Who said it was real? Nobody, not even the guy who claim he saw it.
