Me too

I used to record KGFJ, KDAY on the radio too, and make and sell mixtapes of all old school funk groups like Zapp, Ohio Players, Parliment Funkadelic, James Brown, etc from my record collections. I used to be a DJ and apart of club promoters like and at time of Uncle Jams Army era in LA. as a teenager.

Then in 82 I got my first recording studio a Tascam 244, 4-Trk, tape machine, Roland Bassline, TR-606, and Korg Monopoly synth trying to record electro funk in the rap electro funk era.

More off topic. I lived a French friend years ago, and we were talking about the A-Team, and he started singing the theme. We found out that in France, they added words to TV shows like the A-Team and Starsky and Hutch.

Now words in the original US versions ?

First time I went to the UK when I was a kid, I was puzzled about why there were L'Agence Tous Risques toys with that strange "A Team" brand... I thought they had to be knock-offs !

You never know. These modern MPCs won't be modern in the future & may have something that people in the future prefer over the future modern MPCs.

We have people in modern times saying they love the classic 1k/2500 for its grimey sound, but when thehy first came out people was said they sound too clean/transparent.

Also, remember there's a point in the future where your dead & won't ever know what will become a collectors item.

i personally think that current line of mpc's, just as many other pieces of GOOD gear around us these days, are too intertwined with computer software , this will lead to a different kind of obsolescence and that's why i too think they will not be collectors items or "classic" machines in the future, while a piece of old hardware like an s-950 , with its olda$$ floppy disk drive and stuff, is more hackable and in general doesn't rely on contemporary informatic technology to work good. new mpc's with their wifi connection, need to rely on inmusic servers for stuff will probably be forgotten in 20 years...but yes, who knows...
on a side note, 1000\2500 are in a kind of league of their own only thanks to jj , the only models of mpc's who received a very revolutionary third party os (ok, we had valixi but that's more a conservative upgrade than a full blown rewrite\revolution of the machine capabilities). without jj i think noone will ever consider buying a 1000\2500 in 2024...as you said these machines are not known for their sound, their character, only for the versatility of their sequencer and sampler, and only with jj onboard...

I gonna stick to my initial statement. You wrote all that for nothing. None of know what people will want as a collectors item in the Future. I also said it may not need to even work for some collectors. Plus the main parts of them are dont need computer. What are you talking about JJ is the "the only models of mpc's who received a very revolutionary third party os"? There's hacked versions of the MPC & Force & we don't now how far they gonna push that OS later, which is why it's not easy to predict the future.

I didn't say these things aren't know for their sound character. I said people back then thought it didn't sound as good as the older MPC. They were too clean, but now, in modern times, there's people that want them because they say it's has a grimey sound. People in the past would've been like :smh: :smh: to that.

You love the MPCs with JJOS & so do I. Luckily it still being updated. People still used them for what their great at which is sampling & MIDI sequencing & the look the modern MPCs you don't need a computer for that.

All I'm saying is that it's pointless to try to predict a future classic. Once again, you never know with these things & you may be dead in the future when or if these things are ever considered collector items. Please let's not start another circular argument. Let's just agree to disagree & keep it moving like Soul 2 Soul. Peace.

There's a HUGE difference between the two though.. JJOS comes straight from the source code itself. JJ literally took the 1000/2500 OS when he left Akai and started working on it on his own.

Anybody 'hacking' the current MPC OS is still stuck with whatever we've got. You might be able to enable some hidden Linux functionality in it, but it's not like anyone is ever going to be adding features or improving the actual MPC/Force OS.. Making one OS boot on the other's hardware is pretty trivial compared to modifying the source code itself.

Still doesn't change the fact that we don't know what will become a collectors item in the future & the reason(s) why.
I haven't been keeping up with the MPC hacks lately, but I'm sure some disagree about it not improving the OS or at least the workflow. The Force Mockba mod does add new features. Recently I asks if we could be able to use the pads as naming shortcut for common names like Kick, Snare, current date..etc & they added it & they also just added:

I grew up in West Compton near Campanella Park area. You live kinda close to DJ Evil E, Ice T's DJ when I used go over their house in that area to sell them beats.

For those who saw the since removed page on MPCStuff—did you see it in two different colorways? Someone on Reddit indicated it comes in “two flavors.” Hoping the red is not my only option. Not sure if I would just wait it out and hope Akai does the sensible thing and releases it in black and retro white.

More importantly, though, is there a sense that this would run off an internal rechargeable battery like the Live II I just sold? If so, I’ll probably buy the Key 37. This would fit my needs—a self-contained setup for my sofa setup. I tried the Live II with the MPK Mini Plus, but hat was just clumsy. Fine if you just keep it on a desk, but not good for a portable/movable situation.

Everything else you guys are griping about… eh…. I’m certainly no power user, so I’m certain I don’t know how much of a “pile of shit” this is going to be. On the other hand, I recognize that good creators have always adapted to really cruddy product designs in the past, and this will not be an exception.

For me, I’d want battery power, and much quicker boot/ready times, versus the Live II. It would help me tremendously to just be able to switch on and go. Somehow, waiting only 20 seconds and that ‘hold down the button to make me ready’ scheme just put me in the wrong mood…. Ah, first-world problems, amirite?
