Are the x panels coated in some rubberised material?

I had this happen on the Slider caps on the Korg Oasys a few years back the rubber breaks down over time and it’s like the material is melting and they end up being tacky and sticky to touch.

I’ve also had this happen on an SE electronic condenser mic as it has a rubber coating,it’s ended up like tar!!!

I don’t think there is anything you can do or use specific products to clean it,it’s just a natural breakdown of the rubber.

If it was me,if they are getting worse would just take the panels off and cover them with a custom vinyl skin wrap that way at least you know it’s not going to be a dust/Finger print magnet and vinyl cover will wipe clean easier,if it ends up anything like those knobs caps on the oasys it becomes a nightmare

I believe the Coating is for extra grip. You actually see it on the Black MPC Live Models. But...Dudes wit Sweaty Palms eat that sh*t up, makin it sticky

Y'all better start using Lotion when y'all pleasing yourselves ....instead using Raw Hands   :smh: :smh:   :Sigh:

Your body is creating Natural Sweaty Palm Glands for Lubrication  TOXIC

I had this same issue with the Rennaisaunce and to this day I dont know what caused it. Maybe on hot days in a room with no air when not being used is was a thought but honestly I dont know. It was a mystery to me then and still is. Now I have a X SE and hope that doesnt happen again in the future. :?

It is not a mystery:
Many, many !!! manufacturers just choose the wrong plastic.

IMO you can try to wash your hands before using your gear to delay that decay but it will happen sooner or later independent of storage conditions, climate etc.

I've had my X and Original Live since 2017 & 2018....Hasn't peeled yet lol. It's just a Light Coating for extra grip. Salty Hand Juice is the Culprit

It's an Under-Reported Health Condition

So bizarre i just searched this and not a member here until 5 mins ago. I set up my Mpc today after not using it a month or so and got the same issue. I think it might be something to do with the deck saver it’s taken some of the paint of slightly n both sides are tacky. Might be the plastic used. I doubt they were able to test for this being a time factor issue.I’m sure I read something about an updated mpcx case at decksaver. Possibly others have complained. It’s like the paint is being decomposed by the decksaver.

At least it‘s a valid assumption. Maybe the decksaver exhales „something“, maybe the cover prevents „something“ from the paint to be absorbed by air flow... :hmmm:
These are complex chemicals and it usually takes a while to become effective.
I once had headphones ($200) in which some glues after 2 years polluted everything, including membranes and coils of the driver
I only use metal boxes to store microphones, no plastic, no foam involved...

humidity and temperature is the culpret. it's more apt to happen when its humid and hot, rather than in the dry and cold. I wonder what it looks like stripped off, couple more years i bet we will find out lol. It may actually be a decent indicator that your home is swampy as a mf and you need a dehumidifier to dry the air.

I mentioned humidity earlier. That seems to be the most logical cause. Do anyone with a dehumidifier or live in a dry climate have this sticky problem?

Hopefully we can narrow down the cause. Oils from hands was also mentioned, & that may have something to do with as well, but if so I think more people would have that problem because I doubt most users wipe their MPC down after using it.

Could just something unique with the red paint. Do anyone with the X SE having this issue? This a longshot question, since so few have it but you never know.

Mine also became sticky.. I thought it was due the cleaning substance I’ve used but now I think that it’s not. Fixed it by wrapping it in carbon fiber.
