+1, nice observation. something i'd overlooked.

False equivalency, time signatures seem to be removed, disk streaming was a feature request.

I was speaking in general. Even if the MPC had both of those features people would still **** about it not having something or whatever.

Sure people on forums like to complain, but I think all of this would be solved for me personally if Akai actually provided something like release notes on the beta. I don't think I've ever tested a beta without some sort of document saying what are known issues, what is not enabled yet, and sometimes if they're being transparent what will be deprecated? No one knows whether or not they just haven't implemented time signatures in the beta yet, or if it's deprecated, because they haven't said sh*t about it. People freaked out enough about mute tracks to where some beta tester influencer was able to get the ear of Akai and find out they are working on that.

So yeah, some people are habitual complainers, but when something that is valuable to people gets deprecated IMO it's very obviously going to happen, you can write it off, but I'm not sure why you would want to? I haven't commented a peep about anyone whose upset that Programs being independent of tracks, because there are use cases where it really messes with their work, because it doesn't affect me in no way makes it not valid.

Personally the fact that time signatures are possible in MPC2 was a reason to choose it over other options, so yeah it affects me that it could be gone. Freezes me in 2 effectively.

One not so fun workaround people haven't mentioned is to use measures of 4/4 that divide by whatever time signature you're using, so 5 bars of 4/4 in the MPC to use 5/4. It restricts your writing to arbitrary measure lengths, is far from ideal, and doesn't really address /8 time signatures, but it at least gives you quarter note beats for arpeggiators.

Your still not understanding what I'm saying. I don't mind people complaining. Since perfection doesn't exist there will always be something that we will want & or don't want. So I actually accept & expect most people to complain. I was speaking very objectively about the nature of people. Not about any specif about missing MPC features.

I do agree with you about Akai lack of transparency being a problem. That's part of why I call Akai the Mysterious Red Ninja.

Does anyone know how to record multiple audio blocks on a single track? I only know how to record from the start at the moment.

Looking through the quick start guide, there's a lot more to this than I expected. Definitely feeling like this is a brand new product

I experimented with a single sequence, audio-focused project. There's a lot that I like. Things get strange when midi gets involved. But when you look at the quick start guide they are using markers and all sorts of things that would maybe make it make sense? I get the feeling that you really have to have a complete understanding of everything you can do to really grasp the workflow vs focusing on specific features

Try using punch-in recording. You can set it up from the Arrangement tab in the main screen. Instead of using punch-in locators, you can also set a loop region in the arranger screen before recording.

You can set the arp to triplets..

Disk streaming is fantastic, but when using punch-in recording on an audio track with samples, the original sample plays for a split second on the next loop, even though it has been overwritten. This problem didn't occur when recording to RAM.

HouseWithoutMouse wrote:Is punch-in recording possible and usable? Is there cross-fades between slices/takes, or clicks at slice borders?

There isn’t a crossfade feature like in Ableton for audio tracks, but there are fade-in and fade-out options to avoid pops and clicks. The transitions might be slightly unnatural, but they are functional.
By HouseWithoutMouse Sat Sep 14, 2024 2:03 pm
Ok, so punch-ins are still unusable in MPC3. Just record the punch-in on a separate audio track, just add fades to both tracks, and just bounce it back to a single audio track.

Please tell me you haven't done away with "Clip Programs."

I made complete songs jamming on just one Clip program loaded with samples for drum parts, bass, lead, vocals, etc .... Now that's gone in 3.0!!!

Please please please bring back Clips.

(And yes I know there is a roundabout way of continuously looping samples on a Drum program. But Clip programs are sooooo much easier. Or were.)

I for one will be ditching 3.0.
By IvoryBlack589 Sat Sep 14, 2024 4:44 pm
3.0 just might be a game changer for folks recording audio

I see the vision now

Not a DAW in a box, but a sequencer, sampler and multitrack (think the touch based Zoom ones) all in one.

Lot of kinks need to be worked out, but I feel like this is an exciting direction for them to embrace.
