MPK249 MacBook Pro M1 Pro 2021

Hello,

I have an MPK249 and am trying to get it to work with my M2 macbook pro. I am trying to update the firmware as using as since going to Seqouia has stopped the keyboard from working. It doesnt get picked up at all by midi studio. I have tried running the firmware with a powered hub, I have tried direct to the laptop. None of this worked.

I have tried an old Intel Mac I have that can at least see the keyboard BUT when I try to run the update for 1.02 with MidiUpdater it always errors with some error messgaer that says, "update failed for unknown reason". Has anyone else had this issue running the MidiUpdater? Does anyone know a workaround?

For what its worth.... I did get this working but the only way I succeeded was to use Windows to update my MPK249. I couldn't get the midiupdater to work with either an M2 macbook pro or an Intel macbook pro. I bought a powered USB hub and a USB b to USB c lead to no avail. In the end I used Windows on my Intel mac to update the firmware to 1.02 and then I could use the MPK249 with my M2 macbook.

I hope this helps someonelse and means they dont have to go through the pain of all of this...

If anyone else has this problem:

I was able to get the midi updater app to work on an old Mac, running OS 10.13.6 (High Sierra.) Used it to update a Max49 to the latest OS 1.12.

Note you will have to control-click it to open it the first time, to get past the "MidiUpdater is an application downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" warning.

I tried on a newer Mac running 15.6.1 (Sequoia) but it doesn't work- gives a warning that it can't be scanned for malware, & control-click won't get past it.

This is exactly why I keep my old Mac around- vintage digital!
