I went from MPC 60 & S950 (60 was the only thing I knew/had for 10 years; never used a DAW before) to S2400 when it came out... then (trying) to go back to MPC asap (once I sell S2400; it's taking forever).

Just really miss the MPC's midi-sequencer, workflow and DNA.

What are ur prime dislikes with the S2400?

always liked the RS7000; I will defo pick one up, featurewise it reminds me of the Korg ESX1 combined with the Korg EM1; the Korg ESX1 was one of may favourite samplers that I have had.

it seems like the next gen live will be announced before the next gen X as we have seen no fcc filing of a new X shaped product

It is quite possible that the new live device and the keys 61 will become the flagship from Akai.. I'm not sure if they will try a new big flagship again after the live did so well and I don't think the X or the XSE never sold like others.

That's possible. With all these different models all running the same OS, what's the point of a flagship - that are still infested with the same bugs as the lowest priced model?

the hardware is valuable to consumers regardless of the state the of software; people like new shiny toys and want to have the lastest shit out.

I think Akai will always have a flagship X tpe unit; as that is the MPC heritage they seek to continue

The hardware will be just as valuable & shiny w/o the title of flagship. That's some salesman shit & it won't convince someone to buy it that either can't afford it or doesn't want giant decive w/o a battery. A better term to me would be premium or luxury model.

"Always" is a powerful word just like it's opposite, "never" & should only be used by powerful psychics or least by the top people in the business. Things change like the fact that Akai never had an MPC with keys. So to a keyboard player is the Key61 the flagship based on their needs?

There nothing that indicates that Akai is committed to always having a flagship. That's just a status symbol thing. It's possible that they could replace that concept & term for an alternative over time, especially they are proving to increase sells or just makes more sense to customers.

This isn't a hill that I'm willing to die on. I'm just offering possibilities. If they dropped the term & didn't replace it, would it hurt sales?
Nope & most wouldn't even care or notice.

EA-Ski's of this world would beg to differ; as would the pros linked to Akai such as Just Blaze, Jermaine Dupri, etc.

Yes the High end market is smaller but there will always be the pro consumer base.

None of that addressed my points. I. Never said they shouldn't have a high end model. Those same users would still the it would out the flagship title or if they replaced the that term with premium/luxury model.

It's fine, if you plan to only use it as a sampler/drum machine sequencer, or as an external sampler (like an S950).
But, if you plan to use it as your hub/centerpiece for external synths, it is unusable.

- It automatically mutes/cuts-off any long sustained midi-notes upon/per each loop repetition (i.e.: you cannot midi-record ext. synths over the "loop boundary" or "over the bar line"). So, pretty much you can’t record/sequence long strings, pads, fx, chords, etc. that goes beyond pattern's-length in your music for example.

- There is NO automation of pitch wheel, mod wheel, external analog filters, external fx nor any other basic CCs.

- It can’t record its’ own filters, levels nor any other changes smoothly & continuously (it is instead “stepped” per quantized-step).

- Bugs w/ hanging midi-notes and also intermittent sample drop-outs.

My old MPC 60 could do all the above w/ no problems.

My main grip was the lack of mod/pitch-wheel automation, but I do still love the S2400.
The hanging notes thing..
When I used to use it to sequence, I don't remember getting those overly.
I just felt like I was reaching for the pitch/mod-wheel too much so I sorta gave up on it for sequencing, but at least it's a decent slave to my daw and it sounds good.

in my opinion, this is the ONLY reason anyone should buy this machine for. it's a poor man's sp1200 -- the only reason I bought it on launch day was to get the aliasing artifacts that we ALLL want an sp1200 for. Isla are in business to serve the masses, and they are adding all this extra stuff for these 20-30 something year olds who want a daw in an sp. the machine cant do it all, and there are only like a few folks who work at isla, and now they are focusing their resources on the caladan, so these little bugs wil be around for a minute, or until more people complain over on the bug forum at isla to bring it to their attention.

as an sp1200, it does it perfectly. i got the dsp card and use the rx 950 to further bring out that sonic charm...

wh does akai have to keep new hardware a secret tho; why cant they do like Sony or other games console companies and announce when they dropping new hardware to set the expectation and and build demand?

The pads.

The feeling and slickness of the pads make me not use it as much as I should.

agree the pads dont have that squishy feel that i prefer, but i think thats a general issue with all thick pads.

the mpc live pads have better grip; but again they dont have that slight squishy slight give when u press them that makes pads feel more responsive unfortunately.

I gotta try the pads on the sp404 mk2 and see how they feel, at least the pads are thin on that device.

tho the pads on the sx were thick; yet they still gave way a lil when pressed so they felt somewhat responsive.
