Quick question on those familiar with the scsi setup of asr.

I’m getting ready to make a lot of instruments / kits etc. is there an issue having drums on one scsi (scsi 1), samples chops on another (scsi2), songs / sequence or banks on another (scsi3) ? Trying to organize it cleanly due to the 38 file then directory situation.

Will the bank data save the wavesamplws from those other scsis (scsi1 for example) if they are all attached? Ie a sd card broken into 7 scsis etc. or will it actually copy those instruments again and save them with the bank data to that SCSI (2) anyway?

My goal is to have a scsi setup for kits etc and one for the chops labeled for the projects separate. Then when I want to dump the backup data I can pull all the samples off that scsi along w sequence and bank data and empty it essentially for new projects so the data can be backed up separate. If the drum kits get copied again anyway I dunno if I should still put on a diff drive or not. Just trying to make sure when loading sounds up it will work and there’s no no pitfall down the line if I want to recall stuff.

Would like to keep one scsi dedicated for sounds I’ll always re use (kits) so I can just leave that drive alone and just dump the sequence/song bank stuff to computer for backup and start fresh.

Have had my asr for a long time, usually setup as a slave to mpc, have recently been diving into using it solely on its own to learn the intricacies more of its sequencing , step edit etc all self contained.

I have been getting error 144 when using the song mode or even manually skipping patterns of sequences in edit sequence section etc.

I have given the machine a full day of being off to ensure it’s not overheating or anything of that nature, I’ve never had any issues with the machine.

I loaded 2 sequences today with the bank, ensured all the instruments are working as intended etc. one of my sequences was just a 4 count kick on every beat at beggining and a 4 count at the end of the main 8 bar sequence, I do this to align the timing for daw on passes etc. old habit.

As it transitions from the sequence of kicks into the other it plays for a second then I get error 144 reboot? Message. Have tried to remedy this multiple ways but can’t seem to find out what the issue is.

The instruments in my bank are just a simple sample chopped on 1 kick 2 snare 3 hat 4 bass 6 etc. there isn’t a whole lot going on that should be freaking it out. The kick for the count is using the same kick in the normal bank that’s in the beat etc.

I have no midi connected at all, have turned auto loop find setting off in menu, turned off audio tracks and every weird solution I’ve found in the archives online.

Does anyone know what actually causes this and what I can do to fix it? Sorry for the long post, just figured I’d try and trouble shoot what I have done already in case it helps. The manual states it is a midi issue or a “keyboard issue” not sure what they are referring to if it’s the actual keybed or the unit as a whole. I can use the machine for hours on end in any other way I want but the song mode specifically or flipping sequence patterns manually is when this is occurring.

Other information I’m not sure matters I have the drums all set to aux 123 and panned to use the outs expander and the sample going out through the mains. There is an effect on the main sample everything else is set to dry.

Quick update on this, i talked to thesonic in the Bay, seems my one broken key that popped up from the movers years ago may be causing this. It never caused issues as I wasnt using song mode in asr 10 and Ive never gotten an error since owning (2008-09 roughly) Going to have to try and replace the key myself and see if it fixes it. Quite the annoying surgery in the asr for one key lol.

Hey guys, do you know if the latest Ensoniq ASR-10 operating system necessarily needs the latest eprom upgrade ? So I can tell one has the latest eprom if it runs the latest OS ? I'm looking to buy an ASR and I'm in doubt if I need to look if it runs the latest firmware so I can run the latest OS ? Is that important to look besides the memory and scsi expansions ?

EPROM VERSION:

The final version EPROM released for the ASR-10 was v1.50B.

Most ASR-10s will have this installed. You can check which one is installed on an ASR-10 by going to this menu.

-COMMAND + ENV 1
-Right or Left arrow to select SOFTWARE INFORMATION, then press ENTER.
-Right or Left arrow until you see ROM=X.XX, which displays the ROM version.

If the ASR-10 has EPROM v1.50B installed, it will just be listed as "1.50" on that menu screen.


OPERATING SYSTEM:

OS v1.25 - This Operating System only works with EPROM versions lower than v1.50B (For example: v1.00).

OS v1.61 through OS v3.53 - All of these Operating Systems require EPROM version v1.50B.

We suggest to always use OS v3.53 (The final Operating System released).

Has anyone used the 1.61 OS? Could someone send me the .efe file? Thanks!
