yo i think lampdog ment all you need is an mpc. maybe not though.

It helps to have a main source for sampling, like a turntable (and a mixer would be nice). But really, you can sample from any sound source like your home stereo, vcr/dvd player, the internet.

An electrical outlet (you know....to plug it in)
and some 1/4" cords or RCA's - depending on how/what you're sampling
and you already got the speakers so you're ready to get started

Long way to go i reckon....

Got a computer? You could do with one. For sampling mainly - also recording. Something with a decent soundcard.

You also need heaps of SAMPLES now.
When I got my MPC my friends were asking "where the beats at?", I was like yo man, i need to collect more samples an shit,
"oh tru you need samples? I thought the MPC came with them?" F**Ken Idiots.

Drums, Bass, Vocal, Effects, Orchestra, LP- Whatever. I found I wasnt making anything nice until I got all of these, I'm still searching, nothing I have is ever good enough really.

Luck
Pz
ess.

I bought a triton classic about a month after I bought my 2kxl.

Went on to Triton Extreme now, gave up the classic.

Already had a ASR10 from years back though.

Sounds to me like you haven't even sorted out your MPC and your already thinking about your next piece of gear!?

If I was you I'd get the MPC sorted first, and just get some practice in with that, before you go out and maybe un-necassarily buy other stuff.

Just take one step at a time, whats the rush!?

A mixer will benefit you in a number of ways.....i'm sure a lot of people on here will be able to tell you the different ways they use them so i can only speak for myself..........

I'm actually not that far away from you in terms of gear..... I have a shyt keyboard that i run into the mixer (channel 2) so i can tweek the EQ's.
I save channel 1 for my mic incase i need to use it...which is rare...unless i'm drunk and get some dumb idea to sample myself sayin something....(usually ends up a waste of time)....
And channel 3 i have my turntable. Then i use the main out to go into 'record in' on the MPC......so if i want to sample something i just gotta go to my sample screen and i have all three possibilities. Plus a mixer will allow you to do EQ changes to your Vinyl....if you need to boost the highs or lows or whatever........ and at this point it sounds like that will be the number one benefit for you getting a mixer
