I've tested it a lot yesterday and all last night too.

It definitely works much much better than before (ie: doesn’t freeze, sometimes multiple times, per session anymore).
I also (normal, not force reboot) restarted machine probably 20x yesterday at different times, trying to recreate the issue to no avail.

But, the problem still / finally arose again after using it all day/night; just one time, while browsing menu/pref-page and required a force reboot.

After that, it didn't happen again at all for another 2 hours of use and worked properly.

But, one time is enough; esp. in only 1 day of testing and the problem still arose, and not an entire week of testing (ie: I couldn't even get through a single day with no unresponsive-touchscreen problems).

So, yeah, I think it's safer to just exchange it while it's still within the return/warranty window.
Already started the return/exchange process and the new replacement unit is already shipping out to me today.

SD cards really that bad for these MPCs?

I guess I'll have to swoop a new Samsung SSD.

Not really, just don't use any cheap ones & I would format them on the MPC.

Yes. All your problems are due to using the SD. Certain cards are fine but as far as I know there’s no rhyme or reason. It’s best to not use them period. Especially when you’re using other connected storage

I see. I'll get an SSD just to be safe.

But... now that I think of it (I wrote it in my previous posts too)... that I first tried a better SanDisk card, then also tried No SD card at all... and the problem still arose with no SD card.

Would SD cards inject some kind of bug/glitch in the system, and also stay inside the system (even after ejecting SD card and then not using an SD card at all)? ...perhaps the Reset Preferences cleared the bugs in the system caused by the SD card?

New unit should be arriving tomorrow already. Crossing my fingers it's a good one.

Download the release notes for both.

What are release notes? Notes from Akai stating current bugs?

Here’s an observation that may be related to the unresponsive touchscreen.

My laptop audio is connected to my Mackie desk mixer.
My HPs are also connected to my Mackie desk mixer.
I use HPs regularly whenever I make/edit videos.
Been using the same Mackie mixer and HPs for +15 years, with no issues.

While I am learning the new MPC, it is NOT connected to the Mackie mixer; and I use the HP outs on the front port of the X SE while learning it.
(of course, I will connect it to the Mackie, once I have finished the Bible, have learned it and start making music).

For the past 3-4 weeks, whenever I use my HPs (laptop>Mackie>HPs) to work on videos, I noticed something that’s never happened before for +15 years… there is now a super faint, annoying, high-pitched, electrical whine/hum.
Kinda like an office printer/scanner noise; but super low volume (or, the AF motor of a camera lens, if you put your ear to the lens).

I re-plugged the HPs directly to the 1/8” out of my laptop; and No noise/hum/whine anymore. So, I’ve isolated it to the cable running from the laptop to the Mackie.
Mackie itself has no whine/hum neither; cuz when I plug the HPs to the Mackie; and when I unplug the cable from laptop to Mackie, the whine disappears. So, it’s def the cable I thought.

Now, this noise started happening at the same time I got the new X SE (the first one).
I didn’t think it was related; since the MPC X SE was NOT connected to the Mackie at all. But, then, I returned it for the exchange.

After returning it, and then working on videos again on the HPs (laptop>Mackie>HPs), I noticed the whine/noise/hum was totally gone now.

So, it finally clicked in my head that the (first) X SE I had was causing the hum/noise/whine. Even though the MPC was NOT connected to the Mackie!

Perhaps the MPC itself, or its’ power-supply, was emitting some kind of strong interference signal for the cable to catch wirelessly (the cable from the laptop to Mackie), maybe due to a hardware glitch, faulty hw component or something else.

Perhaps this interference and/or faulty hw component inside the machine was causing the occasional unresponsive touchscreen issue.

Furthermore… I just received the new exchange yesterday, hooked it up, and used it for several hours last night. And, there was NO interference hum/noise/whine on this newer MPC like the first one (from laptop>Mackie>HPs; and MPC still not connected to Mackie).

So, the older/first unit I got def had something going on inside of it that caused interference hum/whine/noise to cables close to it (like a foot away though); which this newer exchanged unit does not emit (luckily).

As for operation of the new unit itself… it’s been great so far and not a single freeze yet (knock on wood)!

I’ll report back in one week and see if I get the same unresponsive touchscreen issue. (before, I couldn’t even get through a single day/session with No issue)

Another note:
The hum/whine/noise was always happening (when I had the first X SE), even when the MPC was totally turned Off. So, perhaps the power supply?

100% sure that was a power brick that had some filtering issues, and some of unfiltered noise gotten thru grounding wire, weird that mackie board power supply didn't filter that out.

Good that You replaced the unit and don't have issues now, nothing more frustrating than hum/buzz issues in studio :)
