Note off trigger

Anyone use this for anything special

I've seen a few producer use this for their kicks, I tried it and it just dont work for me anyone else do this or anything else with note off(when you release the pad the sound sounds)

just tryd it a few times. i felt that it is nice for jammin and i thought i might use it live ... dunno for programmin beaz - didn't work for me eihter yet ... but i ll come back to that coz i just noticed that my keyboard is transmittin off velocity ...

I havent tried it yet, but if I`m not mistaken one can use velocity evelope say play one sound in zone 1 with note on and a zone 2 sound to play with note off. And also using note off on the keyboard to activate a program modulation as the source on the program modulation destination. I don`t know everything give it a try in the Z8 manual it gives some explainations.

yeah that d be great ... i been trying that straight away yesterday - without succes - anyone knows how???

The Play Trigger option (per KG/Pad) gives you the following options:
* NOTE ON: the samples in the KG are triggered according to the Sample Play mode when the Pad/Key is pressed (as usual)
* NOTE OFF: the samples in the KG are triggered in One Shot mode when the Pad/Key is released.
This can be useful for effects, for instance on plucked instruments, such as acoustic guitar, or mandolin.
* TOGGLE: the samples in the KG are started with the first Note On and stopped with the next Note On.
For instance, if a sample is in Loop Play mode, the first hit on the Pad starts the loop, and the next hit on the same Pad stops the loop.

Thanks a million Sean you get my vote as employee of the month!!! How about off velocity will that trigger another sample in the zone modulation mode? I`m wondering if a trigger one sample with note on can I trigger another with note off evelope in the zone. Or should I merge two samples into one and use loop and release to play the latter half? Thank you in advance/

Not in the same KG.
Play Trigger mode is set for the whole KG (4 zones) and when NOTE OFF is selected, NOTE ON is ignored by this KG.
However, you can layer two KGs on the same note (in a Keygroup program), one with NOTE ON and the other one with NOTE OFF.
You can also layer two Drum programs with different settings on the same Track.

Just in case you were wondering, the Play Trigger window is accessed differently from Keygroup and Drum programs:
* Drum Program: in PROGRAM / KG MIX or PITCH page, move the cursor to the Note field (far left) and press the WINDOW key.
* Keygroup Program: in PROGRAM / PITCH page, move the cursor to the Low or High Span field and press the WINDOW key.


Loop Until Release is another way to get the sound to change after the note off, but obviously it only works if the first part (Note On sound) is looped.

Diggin for that good ****

It is golden week in Japan a 7 day holiday I took off to the beach, drank, party, digged for records, and read the reference manual in depth. I mean read that bay boy like a book and man did I go to the next level with understanding my gear. I recommend to everyone to go back to that reference manual page by page. I realize after my understanding of effects, mixer page gain struture and control changing my multi I could do a hell of alot more with my 4k. It took me 3 days of just sipping on brew in a nice breeze reading and late nights reading up on each function cuz if I land in a pro studio with a client or engineer i will have to know my tool inside and out. So I had to dig further than I did before. Anyways this thread I remembered after reading the manual again and I brought it back I see too that all that time Sean W. was reading straight from the reference manual too. Check it word for word it is there. Toggle and Note off is to me nice tools for live usage. Next is that merge programs

sometjing kool about the velocity envelopes is if you have 4 dif snares you can set dif velocities for each one,and how hard you hit the pad will determine which snare you will hear the loudest,thats like havin a live drummer.
