i am going to buy the mpc2000xl mcd for 1600. Is that a good price? I am afraid of dealing with ebay because i dont want to get scammed out of my money.

For $100 more you can buy one from a reputable internet site like musiciansfriend or zzounds.I think an extra $100 for a product that you know is going to be legit is well worth it.

I think that's what he meant. But yeah, that's reasonable.Just make sure you get all the paperwork as far as the manual, warranty and registration.

You can usually tell on ebay when its gonna be a dodgy deal. just by the way they advertise / reply / and their feedback.

If you insist on buying from a shop that's cool, but...

MPC2000xl's turn up second hand so often that you're likely to find one within an hour's drive of your house, unless you really live in the sticks. You could test the machine before you part with your money, install a $20 cardreader in 5 minutes, and save about $800. Matter of fact, that's exactly what I did.

hey, what's good?

What type of card reader did you install? Internal? External?

Check the link in my sig for an example.

rickypfromnc, I would recommend the buy the off brand card reader like lo-fi suggested if you already have an MPC. If not then the MCD may be better for you. These card readers are pretty easy to install and you can save some money that way.

Internal, IDE. Forum member Sander found one he thought would work so I asked him to order one for me too. Cost about $40 in the end with shipping. Installing was just unscrewing the bottom plate, unplugging the Zipdrive, plugging in the reader and screwing the bottom plate back on. It worked perfectly right away with OS 1.14.

Yeah, 1.2 is the latest since 1.14 from 2001 or something. Apparently 1.2 improves IDE (cardreader) compatibility.

@ sparq: Yeah, 2000xl.

2k - v1.72
2kxl - v1.20
2k can't do atapi (zip, card reader) on motherboard, only 2kxl.
2k zip, card reader will have to be scsi.

this has all been discussed in previous threads, search and read. it's covered in GREAT detail.
