sample editing from a copy

Okay, here's the deal. I copy a sample in the trim mode, I adjust the parameters of the new copied sample by trying to chop or cut a large portion of the beginning of it, but the mpc won't let me do it. It will only let me cut the end of a copied sample that's just been adjusted, but not the beginning. I can however cut the beginning of the sample on the original one. Anybody know what gives and why I don't have the same sample editing abilities on a copy then I do on the original?

I've read the entire manual and it doesn't have anything about this. I'm using the original MPC 2000.

It seems I have ran into another little problem. When I'm in the main screen and have 2 samples on different pads, One of my samples will play only when I hold down the pad and the other will play straight through even when I just tap it, and they're bothe set to mono . This happens in the main screen, trim screen, everywhere.

Sorry for all the newb questions, but this machine has alot of quirks that I'm not used to coming from the 1000.

if trim mode you can only audition the raw sound you have display'd. none of the pad params and fx will play whne you are in editing mode.

sup man the reason why one of your sounds only plays wen u hold the pad is becoz in trim mode u hav set it to loop. turn the loop off and it shud play wen u jus tap it

Did you copy the pad or
did you copy the actual sample?

They are 2 different things.

Ah, thanks guys, and to split, that's exactly what I was doing. Thanks man, Just that one little thing was driving me crazy. And Lamp, I'm pretty sure I'm copying the whole sample. I don't know how to copy the pad in trim mode. What's the difference?

copying a pad copies all of the parameters you have put on that pad (Decay, filter, tuning, etc.) onto the copied pad, along with the sample assigned to it. If you change the sample assigned to it, the parameters wont change, they will simply apply to the new sample assigned to the pad.

Copying a sample just makes a copy of the sound itself, to be assigned to any pad with any parameters you wish.

That's the difference.
