Studying producers

Is there a source where I can find what samples were used in a song? Is there any songs you recommend studying?

I don`t use it put there is that Sampling Source/Dictionary Guide or something like that you can buy from a user here or amazon.com. Someone here knows and you got some websites too. Research

There you go. I have seen it on the stand maybe two yrs ago in Shibuya, up I was on some find my own s*h*it vibe then. How was it and did you find it useful? I kinda regret not picking it up then cuz I`m moved from keyboard into a more sample-based production now. don't really use it much, it's just fun to read to see what other cats sampled. I never look for that shit, but if I find it cheap...

i listen to alot of p-funk on how they did there arrangements. herbie hancock, roy ayers, issac hayes, pink floyd album the other side of the moon is interesting.

plus over here in the UK we had a series called classic albums (nirvana, u2 etc) but one of them was dark side of the moon and they completely deconstruct how it was put together- the techniques, the equipment- sublime!!

I guess what I meant is how do you guys find out what samples were used in a song? Say I'm listening to a Wutang song and I want to know where they got the sample, just to see how they flipped it. Where would I go to find that out? Is there an online directory or something? Also, what is binger?

What there talkin about at dustygroove will let ya know origins of samples or you could just read the credits, most albums will tell ya if tunes have used a sample, obviously not if its been f***ed with beyond recognition, but then it dont really matter where it came from cos they dont want ya to spot it..

Im always studying other producers, im at a stage where i study producers more then i make beats.

I tend to get hold of beat tapes like j dilla instrumentals and just listen to his drum sounds how the bass is mixed and just take cues and apply things to what im doing.

for me i listen to the way the bass and drums interact.............I think this is important in hiphop tracks.

Listen how the kicks accent the samples, how they accent the bass, and vice versa.

try to interpolate basslines. Learn how to groove your bass to drums.
