connecting my motif rack

I've been trying to connect my motif rack to my MPC 2000xl for a while now and I still have been unsuccessful. I have the channels matched and everything. The rack blinks when I hit a key so I know it is reading it, but still no sound comes out. All I have is MIDI cables hooked up, do I also need audio cables for any sound to come out, if not what could possibly be wrong with my setup. Also, when when mpc is set to play one of the drum programs, the MIDI keyboard will be able to play out the sounds in the program as well and that works perfectly. Yet when it is set to MIDI I get no sound from my motif. Thanks..

midi is just a signal... u still need audio cables from the motif to a mixer to hear the actual sounds... this is midi 101 homie... the motif and mpc should show the diagram on their manuals if im not mistaking..

thankyou guys especially classic...your video was very helpful, if it wasn't for that I would never have figured out I needed a mixer board.

Now if someone could explain this to me...I record a sequence from my motif into my mpc. For example a little piano riff. Now I want to keep that piano riff that I have but I also want to record a new track with a new sound from the Motif. Whats the best way to save the data that I have just enetered so I don't loose the piano when I change it on the motif?

Make sure the motif is int multi mode, that way it can play differnt sounds at the same time on differnt midi channles.

sAVING....

Save all sequnces and songs on the MPC, save the multi program on the motif rack. (u can transfer the muti program to ur computer via USB)

seems like u just need to really take the time out and figiure it out on your own. No amount of question asking will subsitute for reading and experitmentation
