altenative mpc2000 OS?

i heard rumours way back that there was an alternative operating system for the mpc2000 floating around? anyone else hear this?
it wouldnt be too hard to do..
if anyone has could you tell me where to find it or find more about it?

Only updates available at akaipro is what I know of.. search for the global or international archives and you will find the latest updates..

i doubt akai would support people rewriting their OS though....

nah, i heard that there was an alternative for the mpc2000. it was supposed to have been written with a totally different layout.

There was a rumor some years back about an alternate OS for the MPC2000, but it turned out to be just that, a rumor.

There are no alternate OS's for the MPC2000. I cannot say the same for other models.

If anyone feels like writing a better OS..... i will personaly donate $100 to anyone who can come up with an OS that has some more filters, and can layer midi notes.

That would be possible if the filters were in the OS, but they are not. The filters, along with the envelope, tuning and the rest of the realtime sample manipulation is hardcoded in a separate LSI board.

I have written a rudimentary OS that I can get the MPC to boot from, but without some additional documentation from Akai that I have requested, there is little hope of exploiting all the hardware features (particularly that LSI board). I made an offer to Akai to fix some of the remaining issues in the MPC2000XL, a few of them are serious, but looks like I am out of luck.

Ah, i see. They rather push new products than improve the old ones i suppose. Too bad.
It's people like yourself who can turn a good machine into a great one, writing programs and stuff. Too bad Akai doesn't care. Look at what happened to the tx16w from yamaha, someone wrote a new OS for that and actually tuned it into a useable piece of kit.

I got this answer from the JJOS guy concering updating the OS in MPC-2000

Since hardware(CPU etc.) is old, if a function is added, processing will take time.
Therefore, in a sequence, delay arises and does not become useful.
The programmer said such.
