DOPE. i was thinking about doing that to mine... would be too ill with a chrome/brushed steel faceplate.

You should get the metal in the front changed. Then scratches take away from the beautiful wood.

Yep, Kiira did the wood, but I did the finish. I'm learning how to solder too. Then we'll replace the switches and backlight and the leather which is scuffed up. I don't wanna repaint it I like the original Akai look.

Yeah, let me know before you replace the switches, I did this and have the part number for the tact switches and they are cheaper from ouser than from akai service centers.

Als, you should remove your reels when you are not recording to your machine, the weight of the tape can bend things inside the machine and mess it up.
