Working a S950 w/MPC 60II HELP!!!!!!

I have used the 950 for years with my SP1200, and started using it with my 2000xl. it works great. An internal sound and a sample from the 950 could co-exist on the same pad because when you select a Midi track, the internal sounds shut down. But when I use it with my 60, I cant seem to shutdown the internal sounds. When I turn it to midi, the internal sounds play and I lose the 950, I put it on drums both internal and the 950 play. How do you separate the sounds ? Could a 950 sample be placed on the same pad as a internal sound?? or do I have it wrong ?

put a blank sound on the pad and presto, problem fixed.

Nah, turn local off when you want to play the 950 on a midi track without the MP sound.

so I have to keep turning the local off and on to go back and forth between internal sound tracks and 950 tracks. Why is it that I select MIDI as a type ,select a midi channel a get no sound. When I leave the type on DRUM I get both sounds. internal and midi. What gives???

midi is expecting a midi input, like a keyboard controller, to use the pads you have to switch to drum, and turn the 60's local off, then once you record the track using the pads, on the loop it will play both sounds, so you need to switch the track type to midi and you will only hear the 950 sounds then. Another issue that happens is when you do all this, have local off, track set to drum, and you use note repeat, you will hear the internal 60 sound note repeated as well as the external sound. This is because the 60 was designed for pro studios and they would definitly have a midi keyboard controller, from a controller none of this happens, you only have this when you want to use the pads and have to set the track to drum temporarily.

I always use the pads with my external samplers even though I have a controller, once you get the process down you just do it and you can accomplish what you want with little difficulty. The 3000 is the same way.

You gotta get into the machine and learn how it does things and why, rather than hoping it does things how you would do it, since the former actually excersized your thinking a bit and helps you get more out of your machine.

Thank you for clearing this up for me.This process is so much easier on the 2Kxl. I guess the midi capabilities on the 2kxl are just another reason why I just cant part with it. PEACE

The 60 has really great midi capabilities too, it's just that back then they didn't think anyone would want to use the pads to control other things, so the implementation is geared differently. The 4 midi outs on the 60 should let you know that it really was intended for extensive midi use.

try it out and mess with it, you'll see it's not such a big pain, but it is one of the aspects of the 60 that is less elegant.

Oh, and try the footswitches on the 60, it's a whole new world.

I actually still have my controller connected to my 2kxl, considering I just got my 60 2 weeks ago.
