timestretch to tuning relationships.....

Hi all,

sorry if ive missed this in one of the tutorials but was wondering if anyone knew if there was a formula for working out how much timestretch to use for say tuning a phrase down a semitone but keeping it the same length as the original sample....

say i had a melodic phrase in a and wanted to have it in g but last the same amount of time as the original is there a forumal for this, have i missed something obvious (dont have my mpc in front of me at the mo) or am i asking the impossible...

I dont personally like the MPC's timestreching but have found other gear that streches without making the sample sound S-T-R-E-C-H-E-D. I dont know the computer programs that do it (?cool edit?, im sure someone in here can point you in the right direction on the software.), or ZOOM Dr.Sample does this too is an inexpensive peice of gear. Hope this helps.

agreed, although always quite liked the sound you get when you pitch up a looped cross-faded wave (im talkin s2000) and played it across the keyboard...the stretched/compressed element becomes more obvious at different points of the keyboard- cool for those dirty dnb bass lines...
