Sound forge v.4 anyone use it? advice needed

I have a copy and am not sure how to use it.

I want to record from my studio mixer into my pc, to burn my tracks onto cd. I will be using a phono lead to go from the record outs on my mixer and then into my souncard line in. Is it a case of just installing the software pluging my leads in and pressing record in sound forge.

I have only got the copy today so it's not on my pc at the moment.

Is it easy to use?

yup-

set up your seoundcard as your primary device- soundforge should recognise this but in settings/prefs/options (cant remember) you have audio and mid options- select your record source as your sound card line in, create a new file press record, make sure monitor box is checked, get your peaks hitting no higher than -0.3 db and you are away my son...

GREGS SF TIP O T'DAY: turn off all shit you have in your background- when i started i had my screen saver on which when it activated caused a micrsecond glitch in the recording- unbelievabley annoying if you dont know what is causing it.....

Well I did not get chance to set this up last night as my girl is doing her uni work on the pc. But I will let you know how I get on.

isnt soundforge up to version 8.....

7.0 is the latest.

Sony Sound Forge 8.0 is the latest, I have it and it's a good prog.
I like the fact that now it handles VST also.

I am a pc user at the moment. Does SF V.8 only work with windows xp?

4 is probably fine for your needs as a posh tape player- 6.0 is cool but ALL my old stuff was recorded in sf 4...

Did you make use of any of the features such as compression?

The reason I ask about v.8 is that if I can use vst plug ins I can use them to enhance my sound.

sf 6 supports dx plugins and pretty sure 4 does too- that way you can use the dx versions of the waves, psp, ozone and stuff like acoustic mirror...

and yes either l1, l2, ozone isotope to run through to bring my levels up and overall rebalance
