You can't zone, but you can extract which works pretty good. Just highlight the part you want to sample, then hit the edit button, then turn the wheel to extract and it will take that sample out

zoning is just an automatic way of doing what you can do manually already with the 1000. for me, it would be nice to be able to have it done automatically but i'm not hurting with the fact that it's not there. and even though i do my stretching on my pc it would be nice to have time stretch on the mpc. maybe that update is coming soon to a 1000 near you. as the guys over at numark told me.

Say you have a break that is two bars long. That means that there would be 8 beats in those two bars.Just copy the same sample 8 times and then go back and edit each sample so that each new sample contains one beat from the original sample. It was done this way for years before anybody even heard about zoning.Primo,Pete Rock,Easy Mo Bee,RZA and just about anybody that came from the MPC 60,S950,sp1200 or ASR 10 era worked in this fashion. At first glance it seems time consuming but only takes a few minutes to set up.Once you can do it this way then you can get creative as far as how you chop your samples because they don't have to be on beat.To me the MPC 1000 is cool because it's simple to use.Almost reminds me of my MPC 60 except its not big and not 12 bit.
