software swap?

This may sound like an odd question but would it be possible to take the version 2 software out of 1 mpc and replace with it with the version 3 software, then take the version 2 software and put it into the machine that originally had the version 3 software?

Yes, very possible, just be careful as you pull out the chips not to bend the pins or static damage.
