Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

1st off..I am new to MIDI..I dont actually want to do the "real midi" (the technical midi language stuff) I just want the computer to be the master & the Akai to be the slave & record audio that way (dont ask why) ..
I have been trying to get my computer to read my akai & for some reason it just isnt recognizing MIDI..Now like i said, I'm new, so I start troubleshooting to see where my problem is..I THINK its because my echo soundcard doesnt support MIDI ... by the way, I have the midi cable connected to my joystick port in my computer..

my question basically is, is there any way( besides buying a little soundblaster cheapo card to run Midi) that i can run MIDI by downloading some type of software which bypass'es my soundcard (since it doesnt have Midi) and being able to do this? is there ANYTHING i can do.. ??

thanks ahead of time..and if this an easy question, well...it hasnt been for me..

i forgot to add..if anyone knows a way to do this PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me a step by step if you can before i pull my hair out!

thanks..

Why exactly do you need midi communication between the MPC and PC?

set your MPC to receive midi clock, and sync to on, and your PC program to transmit midi clock. make sure the channels are right.

Your manuals should tell you how exactly to do this.

What software are you trying to sync your MPC to? The procedure differs from program to program but there should be a midi tab or sub menu in your program for selecting available midi ports to sync your gear. If your midi device doesn't show as an option make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your midi hardware. I could give you more detailed instructions if I knew what software/hardware your using. You might want to get a usb midi interface, they're pretty cheap(50-100) and work well.

makes sure your sequencer software to set to the proper midi out source.
