ZIP or Hard drive?

Hey Lamp...you're my boy, but I did that and all everything really tells me is I have to "buy more isht" in some way...whether it is a 250 Zip Drive for the PC, an external SCSI HD, or something along those lines. I thought that the SCSI CDR was gonna get it done with CDRW's but as I read in one of your posts...I guess this is not the case. I need to get a new PC at some point anyway too.......Just sux becuz ends are tite and I really want to spend extra chedd on Musical gear rather than Data/Computer gear...but it appears that is the only alternative. Guess I better get a j.o.b. Peace...

Have you tried CDR? Also the method and settings used to write the CDR(W) could be wrong. This too has be covered several times already.

No 3000...I haven't tried CDR (to save). The reason is it doesnt seem to be a viable soultion if I am just doing an hours worth of work and want to back it up...I would then have to close the CDR and not access it again to add more, in essence wasting money and space. Do I understand that incorrectly? Anyway, I will definitely try to run a search for the settings for the drive...I have an older Plextor drive and no manual so hope I can find something specific, if not I'd have difficulty trying to figure it out on my own. I use 250zip on both the MPC and PC. I place samples on my PC formatted ZIP and load it into my MPC. Then after I'm finished making my beat/song I save on my MPC formatted ZIP. I try and stick to 8 character names cause I don't want any involuntary renaming happening on my zips. Now on the MPC ZIP I can name 16 characters but on the PC ZIP I stick to 8. I still use 8 exclusively because I don't want any probs.

I sometimes save samples on my PC CDRW and take them
to my SCSI CDROM drive to load which is easy also (my friend just out the clear blue dropped a SCSI CD-ROM on me - Donjay in the 4k forums)
So I'm grateful for that. I've used CDRW only so far and have had no problem.

I just recently purchased my MPC 2000XL. I would like to install a Internal ATAPI ZIP drive to replace the floppy. I open the MPC and disconnected the floppy and noticed that their is a Internal ATAPI conn. on the circuitboard, my problem is I don't see a power supply to support the ZIP drive. Is their a way to achieve this or do i have to buy a AKAI ready ZIP?

You can go to a PC store and get a splitter that splits the floppy power and ZIP power. Or if they don't have something like that you will have to make one from spare power plugs. The floppy power on the board is connected to a plug that looks like it can hold 4 wires right? The other 2 wire plugs in the same slot are 12v. So you can hook up 5v for floppy and 5v + 12v for IDE ZIP power plug. Don't do it if you aren't sure though cause u don't wanna mess up your MPC. I've done it many times with spare parts cause the ZIP drive ony cost like $50-$70 at a PC store. the kite will run more than $120-200 depending on where you go.

I have been searching past posts but so far have come up empty. mpc3000 said there might be a settings switch but I have no manual and am trying t ofigure it out. The filename info you give is very important and helpful BTW. I guess you gotta get creative when naming shit but whatever works....peace.

Say Lampdog, thanks for the info. Im gonna go check out a local PC store and try to find a splitter. But will that affect the drive or MPC any(converting the power)? Also will the MPC recognize the ZIP automacticaly or i need to install a OS update?

P.S. The power supply on the board holds 4 wires but actually only has 2.

I don't know of any special settings 'cept for term6 on the back of the CDROM, I have a plextor SCSI CDROM. I just plugged it up and it works fine. I used nero 6 to burn a CDRW full of sounds (I used default burn to data settings) and my 2kxl read everything first time with no probems..
