How are you getting your bass sounds now? A sound module, vinyl? The best way to get good bass sounds is to sample good bass sounds, adding fx to a garbage bass sample isn't gonna make it sound good. Post back with your method for bass and I'm sure you'll get a ton of advice for how to improve your sound and let you know what, if anything, you're doing wrong.

is it that:

you are not "looping" the sound correctly (see mpc tutors tutorial)

you arent pplaying the notes at the right time? try doing it without quantization.

the sound sounds "muddy" this could be a problem with EQ, the kick and the bass have frequencies that overlap, you need to "carve" out a freq. range for the kick to sit in so that the bass and it dont muddy.

ex, you tune your kick so that the 100-180 range stands out, and lower the rest then vice versa on the bass so you "carve" out a part of the bass notes so that the kick and it blend instead of one overpowering the other. this is a common one, which is why I eq samples b4 I use them, so I can "carve" the freq range in advance. that is my main beef w/ the mpc, no real eq section.
