Yeah the whole 60 things has something f*cked about it.
I got a 60mkI off eBay in a 7 day auction back in Jan 05 for $650 with V3, memory and a very bright display.
At the same time there were stock mkI's with bids from $575 - 795
??
Don't get me wrong I'm not trying take value from the 60 but everytime somebody pays too much it pivots the market..
Here's another strange thing, if you buy a 60mkII it usually is in need of a backlight. Were the original BLUES for the mkII weaker than what was later used in the 3000"s?
Best advice is to get as much 60 for the lowest price and best condition and plan to add the following cost for any of these it doesn't have:
Memory exp
V3 o.s.
SCSI
new backlight (especially if it's a mkII)
You probably won't see those Route66 V3 EPROMS again, the people at Linn said they don't know anything about them or where they got them from.
If you look at them they have generic labels on them, the sound disk are copies and on HD diskettes but you do get a copy of the manual.
Still they did work and were really cheap.
Right now with the current price comparison of a 60exp to a 3000, the 3000 looks like a better deal.
They are different but if you like Jay Dee then you know that the 3k can give a sweet sound.
Just listen to "Get Dis Money"
Having 60 lust is cool but a 60 without V3 ain't the answer if you have used a MPC before.
V3 is the standard issue for the War Zone.
